Products: First, we checked the variety and quality of their products. We also looked at how varied the brands they were carrying.

Customer service: Next, we wanted to look for friendly and knowledgeable staff members.

Accessibility: We also looked for stores that featured accessible operating hours, official websites and convenient locations.

Store: Of course, we also had to consider the stores themselves to check if they were well-maintained and organised for shoppers’ convenience.

Affordability: Lastly, we took into consideration how budget-friendly these stores were.

Bake With Yen has been one of our go-to stores because of its convenient location near the Chow Kit Road Market. So, whenever we’re restocking our pantries, we always stop by this store just to see what they have on shelves.

To this day, we’re still surprised at how well-stocked this store is, as it offers just about everything from dried fruits to dairy products, chocolate, nuts and seeds and more. However, we do wish that they could also carry baking tools and equipment.

One of our favourite things is their convenient online shop. It saves us the drive as it allows us to browse their shelves, place orders and have the products delivered to our doorstep.

The only thing we don’t like about this store is its inconsistent customer service. Some of their previous customers highlighted how they were assisted by one staff member and received rude service from another.

Pros

  • Features an online store
  • Offers a wide variety of baking needs
  • Reasonable prices

Cons

  • Lack of baking tools
  • Reports of rude staff

Best place to buy anything you need for your baking

“Best place to buy anything you need for your baking, cooking and pastry making. The staff was very helpful and were always ready.

If you come on a busy day/time you will have to wait your turn to request help. Prices are affordable and not too high. Parking is a little problem coz it’s in Chow Kit and the area is well known for busy roads, lanes and back lanes. So you might have to hunt for parking a little.”

– Rizal “Riz 1%er Los Perros MC” Daud, Google Review

Reasonably priced

“I can find almost everything. Ingredients, packaging (various sizes & shapes), moulds for baking here and reasonably priced. The shop has expanded in terms of the range of items since my last review and looks neater and more organised than previously.“

When it comes to variety, House of Ingredients may just beat the other entries on this review. For starters, it offers an impressive selection of baking ingredients like cocoa powders, dried fruits, cream cheese, oils, milk and more.

Moreover, they also offer a wide variety of baking tools like containers, baking moulds, biscuit cutters, etc. What’s more impressive, however, is their selection of appliances, which are great for those who are just starting out.

We actually got our hand mixer from this store and it has been doing wonders for our kitchen ever since.

With a selection like this, one would think that the shopping experience can be overwhelming but that can’t be farther from the truth! The staff members do a great job at organising their products so that each aisle provides shoppers with a specific set of products.

Our gripe, though, is the inconsistent quality. We’ve heard from several previous customers about receiving products that were nearing expiration while others were dismayed at how quickly their appliance broke down after purchasing.

Furthermore, we wish that they would be a bit more responsive in their online and mobile channels.

Pros

  • Offers a wide variety of baking ingredients, aids and appliances
  • Friendly and helpful staff members
  • Features a convenient online store
  • Carries various brands
  • Products are organised neatly

Cons

  • Can be a bit unresponsive at times
  • Inconsistent product quality

Highly recommended

“Most comprehensive range of pastries and bakeries’ ingredients available here. Well set up, clean, tidy and very organized. The price is reasonable. It has many high-quality materials available here. Highly recommended. Well done and keep it up!”

– Chuah W Pang, Google Review

Products are cheaper than other ingredients shops

“The attitude of the staff here is very good and kind. All The products are cheaper than other ingredients shops. All baking needs you can find from HOI. But a bit too far away. The foodtap event is very good very good, free and good dessert.”

Quality Bakers Concept Store is another go-to of ours because of their wide variety of offerings and notably cheaper price range. Furthermore, their stocks are always replenished with new products, which makes it worth coming back to from time to time.

One of our favourite things about shopping here is the neatly organised shelves. Every product is categorised in its own lanes and thanks to the store’s compact space, we don’t have to walk around just to fill our baskets with what we need.

Speaking of, the variety here is impressive. They offer tools such as measuring spoons, baking sheets and trays as well as ingredients like choco powders, cream cheese and more.

The real highlight, however, is their customer service because the staff members never fail to greet and assist us with the brightest smiles.

The only thing they could do to improve is to create an official website. This way, customers can browse their shelves from the comfort of their homes and potentially place orders.

Pros

  • Offers great variety
  • Friendly and knowledgeable staff members
  • Reasonable prices
  • Well-organised store

Cons

  • No official website

The staff is so helpful

Website

We’ve known Pastry Pro long before we took up baking as a hobby because it has been a staple in Malaysian households since 1984. It was only recently when I grew a bigger appreciation for this store when I discovered its wide array of baking products.

The store itself is quite spacious, with each product separated into its own category. For instance, non-food essentials like moulds, mixers and measuring spoons have their own aisles while ingredients like colouring, butter, etc. are separated.

As always, we appreciate when a store features an official website and Pastry Pro nailed this to a tee. For starters, they have an online store so you can conveniently shop at home and have things delivered to you!

One thing we’re iffy about is that their parking lot seems to always be full whenever we’re visiting. We’d usually have to park elsewhere and walk for a couple of minutes to shop in their store.

Pros

  • Solid selection of baking products
  • Reasonable prices
  • Approachable and knowledgeable staff members
  • Features a convenient online store

Cons

  • Limited parking spaces

Would definitely visit again

“A rather unusual location for a bakery supply store, but they are pretty well-stocked with baking tools and equipment.

In terms of ingredients, they have a reasonable variety that you may not find in regular supermarkets or grocery stores. I was in search of puff pastry, however, they only had giant rolls which didn’t suit my purposes.

Would definitely visit again if the need arises!”

– Alicia L., Google Review

The products were of good quality

“For 23 years l have been a customer for only one product, cocoa powder. Yet l was treated as a good customer with cheerful smiles from both sides.

The price was very competitive and the products were of good quality. Actually, they are suppliers to high-end hotels for kitchen utensils, and bakery products too.

The whole area was well-stocked and tidy. They sell high-quality bakery products at competitive prices. As for kitchen utensils, sorry l have no knowledge of it at all, so there is no way l can elaborate.

The staff is friendly, courteous and with good product knowledge. So you may come here for a try. Thanks everyone”

We consider Tip Top Baking Supplies as the “new kid on the block.” However, we didn’t expect how greatly this store would help my family achieve our dream kitchen, given their wide variety of non-food baking essentials.

From aluminium trays to packaging, utensils and more, this store features just about everything a starting home baker would need. Speaking of which, we also appreciate that they offer various premixes to make everything faster and easier.

Furthermore, we love that they offer an online store that features easy add-to-cart as well as checkout features. They even offer free shipping for specific instances like if your order exceeds RM200.

Our only concern is their inconsistent customer service. Personally, we have nothing but good experiences with their staff members, but a handful of their previous customers we spoke with have been disappointed with the lack of assistance.

Pros

  • Impressive selection of food and non-food baking essentials
  • Well-maintained store
  • Wholesale prices
  • Features an online store

Cons

  • Inconsistent customer service quality

Prices are very reasonable

“Just discovered this place by a friend, Very cozy and friendly customer service, very helpful. Prices are very reasonable depending on what you want to purchase. Grace was very nice for sharing and explaining products in the shop. Worth it to drop by.”

– Charmaine Yee,  Google Review

Good customer service

“Great owner (I guess) or maybe the staff at the cashier. Help me with different chocolate coin brands. Also, give me a tester of chocolate coin.

Founded cheaper chocolate coin brand. Previously used beryls but sometime it hard get the stock and quite expensive. They also have a membership and can redeem points etc. Also can order via their phone number. Good customer service.”
