9 Breathtaking Sunset Views You Shouldn’t Miss While You’re in Malaysia
As someone who works a 9-to-5, I mostly spend the golden hours trying to avoid the rush hour and getting back to my safe space. It wasn’t until recently that I realised how much beauty I’ve been missing out on, as Malaysia has some of the best sunset views!
To try and make up for lost time, I’ve made it a goal to witness this breathtaking orange, pink, and gold sight in new places. Fortunately, Malaysia doesn’t fall short of great viewing spots, from rooftop bars in Kuala Lumpur to beautiful beaches and more.
Even though I’m still discovering new spots, I feel like I’ve ended up with a pretty solid list, and I’m here to share my best picks! Check them out below and discover your next sightseeing spot in Malaysia!
Heli Lounge Bar – Kuala Lumpur

The Heli Lounge Bar features one of the coolest concepts we’ve seen in a bar, as it takes place in a helicopter pad. Come sundown, it transforms into this lively lounge, complete with refreshing cocktails, live DJs, and of course, spectacular views!
However, Heli Lounge Bar opens late, so be sure to get there as soon as their doors open to catch the sunset! It’ll be worth it, as you’ll be greeted with a 360-degree view of the KL skyline along with orange, and sometimes pinkish, skies.
Of course, you can continue your stay into the evening and dance the night away with your friends! Also, don’t ignore their food menu, as it holds some hidden treasures, like their sautéed prawns that feature this rich garlicky sauce.

You can easily get to Heli Lounge Bar by taking the train and getting off at the Raja Chulan MR7 station.
Klebang Beach – Melaka

Klebang Beach looks straight out of the Hollywood blockbuster, Dune, which you should definitely watch, by the way. Although there are far prettier beaches in the country, none of them features the vast sand dunes found here!
You can simply pick a spot along the bay and watch the sun go down over the horizon while being serenaded by the soft crashing waves. Also, you can bring a blanket along with your favourite snacks to enjoy a peaceful picnic with your loved ones!
Lastly, you must experience swimming or at least soaking your feet in its waters! Klebang Beach features calm waters, making it suitable for kids and leisurely swims.
Pro tip:
Don’t miss out on the food trucks and stalls located along the shores of Klebang Beach! You’ll find coffee, Hainanese food, fresh oysters, churros, tarts, and even pizza if you broaden your search.
SkyBar – Kuala Lumpur

SkyBar is another rooftop lounge in KL that offers some of the most spectacular views of KL’s city centre. However, what makes it special is its close proximity to one of the capital’s most iconic attractions, the Petronas Twin Towers.
Furthermore, you can also spot the majestic Menara Tower while you’re here! Also, the skyline views become even more breathtaking come golden hour, as orange hues can be seen bleeding into the reflections of the buildings.
SkyBar is also one of the liveliest places to spend your nightlife in Kuala Lumpur, so it’s best to include it in your itinerary even if you’re not interested in sunset viewing. It offers a myriad of refreshing cocktails as well as bar chow that can last you for the entire night!

If you want to earn your sunset viewing experience, then Bharat Tea Plantations should be your destination! Visiting this place will take you on quite a hike, but you won’t feel the fatigue at all, as you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking views 24/7.
These views are mostly made up of the countless rows of green tea plantations, but it gets much better once the golden hour hits. Once you gain some altitude climbing one of the numerous hills of Cameron Valley, you’ll be treated to beautiful sunset views!
Throughout your hike, you’ll also come across beautiful sights like rivers and sprawling greenery, bridges overlooking small manmade waterfalls, etc. You may not encounter some of them on a single trip, but no matter what, you have to sample their fresh tea while you’re here!
KL Tower – Kuala Lumpur

KL Tower isn’t just majestic to admire from the outside, but it also serves as one of the best vantage points in the capital. It’s the tallest telecommunications tower in Southeast Asia, standing at 421 metres, and best of all, it offers visitors various sightseeing options.
For starters, it features an observation deck that wraps around the top of the tower, where you can view buildings as far as the eye can see. Furthermore, it also houses a Sky Box, which is the best place to view sunsets because of its glass walls, floors, and ceilings.
Lastly, you can admire the sunset from the highest point of the tower, the Sky Terrace. This terrace sits 300 metres above ground and offers an unobstructed bird’s-eye view of the KL skyline.

If you’re looking for a romantic date spot in KL that will also treat you to stunning sunsets, then you should book a reservation at ORBIT. It’s located at the top of the KL Tower, and is currently the highest revolving restaurant in Malaysia.
Kokol Hill Elf – Sabah

If you’re looking for a quick and relatively easy nature getaway in Sabah that offers stunning sunset views, Kokol Hill Elf should be right up your alley. The beginner-friendly trek through this tourist attraction is more than rewarding, as it features beautiful natural landscapes.
However, the main attraction waits at the “Elf” area, which is a themed viewpoint that features various Instaworthy installations. As massive Lord of the Rings fans, we absolutely love the hobbit-style house, as it gives us a glimpse of Middle-earth in real life.
As for the most Instagrammable picture you can take, it’s hands-down at the swing set. It directly faces the sunset, and setting your photo at the right angle will make it look like you’re swinging hundreds of feet above ground.

Tanjung Aru Beach – Kota Kinabalu

Aside from being one of the prettiest beaches in Malaysia, Tanjung Aru is a top choice for sunset lovers. It’s not hard to see why, either, as few sights can compare to the sun bleeding its orange hues into the glistening waters of Tanjuing Aru.
However, admiring the sunset is just the tip of the iceberg of the reasons why you should visit this world-class beach. Of course, one of the most obvious things you can do is swim, which is a shame to miss considering the calm and cerulean waters.
Furthermore, you can try your hand at various water sports such as paddleboarding, kayaking, jet-skiing, and banana boat-riding. If you prefer to stay on land, however, there are skate and bicycle rentals available on the beach that can add more fun to your sightseeing experience.

You can set up your own picnic by only bringing a blanket! The beach features various food stalls that offer iconic Malay street food like satay, as well as refreshing drinks like coconut juice!
Four Seasons Resort – Langkawi

Escaping to serenity has never been as scenic as the Four Seasons Resort in Langkawi. This place is home to some of the most picturesque sights, whether it be its beautiful cerulean waters, the pure white sand, or the majestic tree line along the shores.
Personally, the real magic starts at around 4 to 5:00 PM, as the sunset brings a whole new charm to the already postcard-looking views. You can either admire it from the sandy shores or by the lavish outdoor pool of the Four Seasons Resort.
It’s also a treat to stay in the resort because of its luxurious and beautifully designed suites and villas that come with all the modern amenities you can expect. A great example of this is their three-bedroom family villa, which gives major Bali vibes with its amazing private pool.

Thirty8 Restaurant is one of the classiest sunset viewing spots in Malaysia. Everything about its interior screams elegance, from the warm light fixtures to the leather seats, and of course, the floor-to-ceiling windows that allow diners to enjoy the sunset during their afternoon tea.
The sunset views here are exceptional because they offer some of the best seats to admire the Petronas Twin Towers. It gets better by nighttime, though, as the towers are beautifully lit!
Lastly, the food here is spectacular as well, featuring amazing local and international cuisines. If you want our advice, however, make your way to the steak station and get yourself a chunk of Angus steak.
