The 5 Best General Contractors in Sarawak for Construction Around Kuching
Buildings are very complex projects. We have trusty engineers to thank for their repeated creativity and bravery in creating these feats of science and art; I can’t imagine modern life without concrete structures, roads, and waterways, lah!
Now, I’m not an engineer, and I don’t want to give myself a huge headache when it comes to matters about our family home, so I’ll just get a top contractor for renovating. I suppose those of you who’ll start from scratch will do something similar.
To help you begin your dream building, we rounded up the best general contractors in Sarawak in a short list. Find out each one’s specialisations, pros, and cons below!
1. Soon Hing Hong Development

Location: No.251, Lot 8297, 2nd Floor, Lorong 7C, Lorong Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim, 93450 Kuching
Contact: 013-805 0000, 013-802 8070
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday – 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- Saturday – 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM
- Sunday – CLOSED
Our list won’t be complete without a general contractor that (hopefully) many people will relate to, since it makes one of man’s most basic necessities: shelter.
Soon Hing Hong has been building and repairing high-quality homes in and around Sarawak for over 20 years now, and isn’t stopping anytime soon. It can build you a detached home or help maximise your land’s potential with a shop house.
Moreover, other services of this main con that’s popular with clients are home renovations and interior design.
Although being a level G3 in its CIDB registration effectively makes this contractor limited to projects costing below RM 1 million, we’re still impressed at the level of craftsmanship of its housing projects—the polished cement and carpentry work is clear as day.
I guess the company’s ISO certification also strengthened our observations. We can rest assured that each process it has (construction, safety, or admin-wise) is streamlined all throughout.
Dream house built without sacrificing quality
“It has been a real pressure for me to have a company like Soon Hing Hong to build our dream house. This was done without sacrificing quality.”
– Grace Hii, Facebook Review
Will choose them again
“Soon Hing Hong has built a facility for me that I take great pride in. I believe the best testimonial I could give is that given the opportunity to build again, I would choose Soon Hing Hong. Thanks for a beautiful building!”
– Wilson Theng, Facebook Review
2. Belianemas Synergy (BES)

Location: Lot 3626, Block 16, KCLD Mile 3 1, 2, Jalan Rock, Taman Timberland, 93200 Kuching
Contact: 082-253 636 (Tel), 082-421 998 (Account/Admin fax), 082-243 898 (Contract fax), [email protected]
Business hours:
- Monday to Thursday – 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM
- Friday – 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Saturday and Sunday – CLOSED
BES is a Bumiputera company, meaning it’s owned by native Malays (note that we won’t dwell any longer on political matters in this article).
It’s a private and government tauke projek that specialises in buildings and civil works (e.g., roads, waterways, etc.). Given that it values punctuality, quality craftsmanship, and economy, the long list of finished projects listed on its website isn’t surprising at all.
Most notable in the list include the upgrade of Sarawak’s Sibu Airport in 2005 and, most recently, the relocation of waterworks and construction of a segment of the Pan Borneo Highway.
Yet what actually surprised us is how transparent the company is, even posting the list of its equipment and copies of its government certifications on its website for all to see!
BES’s whistleblowing and anti-bribery policies are also out in the open—now that’s a good example of an ethical company.

“Responsible and high performance”

3. Beladin Corporation (1988)

Location: AJ201, Batu Kawah New Township, Jalan Batu Kawa, 93250 Kuching
Contact: 082-460 935 (Tel), 082-459 816 (Fax), [email protected]
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday – 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Saturday and Sunday – CLOSED
Beladin is one of the oldest general contractors we’ve seen for this list, having been established way back in over 35 years ago by an ethnic Malay family. Over a hundred staff support the company in its daily operations in Sarawak.
Nowadays, Beladin’s lines of business include civil and electrical works (most notably for rural electric company Shorefield SDN BHD), even though it had some commercial projects in the past, like constructing and renovating top private banks.
The main con is also one of the select few builders tasked with constructing parts of the Pan Borneo Highway, which proves its continuing feat in the industry!
These facts are truly impressive, yet a more transparent approach to its certifications would’ve been better for Beladin.
(It’s not that we don’t trust it’s compliant—we’re sure it is. However, we just prefer the practice of posting their certifications in public, like what other contractors do.)
Positive outlook
“Tempat yang baik… (Good place…)”
– Arehap Aida, Google Review
Professional and gets job done on time
“Excellent company to work with. Very professional and friendly staff, and always deliver work on time, even when others cannot get the job done.”
– Dr Williams of Gateway Services, Beladin Website Review
4. Crystal Group of Companies – Sarawak

Location: Lot 9925, Block J, 1st Floor, No. 81, Lorong Lapangan Terbang 1, 93350 Kuching
Contact: 82-462 722, [email protected]
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday – 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Saturday and Sunday – CLOSED
Another general contractor in its ‘thirties’ is the Crystal Group of Companies.
Throughout the years, it has carried on residential, commercial, and government projects. Some of its key ventures include the Miri City Hall, the 23-storey Hikmah Exchange commercial building, and the Trinity Soho Apartments.
Although it’s now a big name in the industry, it didn’t veer away from residential projects at all—it actually added property development and management to its business!
That said, one thing just bugs us: despite these wonderful projects and the stellar industry reputation of the company, Crystal Group seems to skimp on its marketing budget.
Its official website just looks… bad. It’s filled with useful information, but half past six on coding and design. In a nutshell, the website makes the company look unprofessional.
We really hope they soon fix this (without removing the public display of its company certifications—we love that bit).
5. Fook Lai Construction & Development (FLC)

Location: 1st Floor, BN 201, Jalan Batu Kawa, Batu Kawah New Township, 93250 Kuching
Contact: 082-575 211 (Tel), 082-575 200 (Fax), [email protected]
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday – 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- Saturday – 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
- Sunday – CLOSED
We’re going back to the arguably younger companies with the 20-year-old FLC. This contractor handles residential, commercial, and industrial projects, both under private and public contracts.
We love how cleanly it spotlights its portfolio of projects. Its website shows both private and public projects, which made us determine that FLC’s key public undertakings mostly include the construction of Sarawak schools and electrical substations.
Also, we can’t help but notice the extent of FLC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects. We also saw an ‘educational’ link in its monthly donations towards the welfare of mentally challenged children and other people in need.
That said, FLC’s record isn’t all mantap.
In late 2025, an FLC subcontractor filed for adjudication for a payment dispute. The parties settled soon after, but it just goes to show that FLC can still get into tricky situations.
