The 10 Best Concert Venues in Malaysia for Electrifying Live Music!

As someone who loves music, I’ve been to my fair share of concerts from local and international artists. There’s something special about watching live performances and sharing the buzzing energy with fellow fans.

And you know what I noticed? Not all venues bring the same excitement. Sometimes, crappy seats or bad sound systems ruin the experience.

But hey, I can tell you where to go. Here are the best concert venues in Malaysia, ranging from intimate spaces that can only hold a little over a hundred people to stadiums that accommodate thousands. Get ready to feel the music… but live, this time!

Major Concert Venues in Malaysia

Bukit Jalil National Stadium

Address: Kuala Lumpur Sports City – Jalan Barat, Bukit Jalil, 57000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur

Contact: [email protected]

Capacity: 85,500

Website

Naturally, Bukit Jalil National Stadium is on our list—emphasis on national stadium because it is massive! It’s so huge, it can seat thousands and thousands of people! It could’ve been Taylor Swift’s 2nd stop in SEA if she went here… just saying.

It’s where large-scale events are held because of its impressive size and good sound quality. The vocals are clear, even with a sold-out crowd during a Blackpink concert—and we know how loud the audience can be!

You get the usual amenities like other stadiums, including multiple entrances and toilets. But the middle of the stadium isn’t covered, so when it rains, floor seats will get drenched.

It’s easy to get here, though, even for tourists. Just take the LRT and hop off at Bukit Jalil Station.

Pro Tips:

Getting inside can be chaotic, given the thousands of people entering the stadium at the same time. Arrive early to give yourself enough time to find your gate, queue, enter, and find your seat.

Also, use public transportation to avoid traffic jams and take note of the LRT stations’ closing times.

Axiata Arena

Address: L2-E-10, Enterprise 4, Technology Park Malaysia, Lebuhraya Bukit Jalil, Bukit Jalil, 57000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur

Contact: [email protected]

Capacity: 13,000

Website

Axiata Arena is easy to get to, since it’s close to the LRT. It’s where smaller-scale concerts are hosted, since the seating capacity is way smaller than a stadium, and the layout allows everyone to see the stage.

Don’t be fooled by its size, since many famous local and international artists have performed here—G-Dragon’s long-awaited comeback was held at this very arena. And since this is an indoor venue, there’s air conditioning to keep the audience cool.

This is one of our favourite concert venues because the sound is clear, with a nice balance of music and vocals. Whether you’re seated near or far from the stage, you can hear the bass without it being overbearing.

Pro Tips:

There aren’t enough toilets for sold-out crowds. Expect the queue to last about 20 to 30 minutes, so arrive early to avoid this.

Also, if you’re sensitive to the cold, bring a shawl or a jacket. Some sections are cooler than others.

Malawati Stadium

Address: Persiaran Sukan, Seksyen 13, 40100 Shah Alam, Selangor

Capacity: 13,000

We love indoor concert venues in Malaysia because they’re cooler. Malawati Stadium in Selangor is one of them, which has hosted various events, like concerts, sports, and exhibitions.

It has a balanced sound system, which allows you to hear the vocals and the music distinctly. And the lighting? Impressive and doesn’t take away from the experience of the performances.

The best way to get here using public transport is by bus. From Kompleks PKNS or Hab Bus Shah Alam, take Bus U605 and alight at Malawati Stadium. From there, you can walk to your destination, taking around 15 to 18minutes.

Pro Tip:

If you’re driving, take a photo of where your car is parked. It’s easy to get lost once more people arrive.

Setia SPICE Arena

Address: Setia SPICE Canopy – 108C, Jalan Tun Dr Awang, Bayan Baru, 11900 Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang

Contact: +604 643 2525, [email protected]

Capacity: 18,000

Website

If you’re searching for a more modern concert venue in Malaysia, Setia SPICE Arena in Penang is where it’s at. It’s considered the largest multipurpose indoor venue in the northern region of Malaysia, with a capacity of 18,000!

It hosts numerous conferences and exhibitions, thanks to its multiple function rooms! But hey, it’s also capable of hosting various concerts of local and international artists.

It’s probably one of the most accessible concert venues for music buffs. There’s no shortage of toilets, and it has male and female prayer rooms on the ground floor.

Pro Tip:

If you’re bringing your car, take pictures to know where you’re parked. There are no clear signs in the underground parking space. Oh, and sometimes, not all lifts are working.

Mid-Sized Concert Venues in Malaysia

Zepp Kuala Lumpur

Media credit: zeppkualalumpur

Address: LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre – B2-01-02 HAB BBCC.2, Jalan Hang Tuah, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur City Centre

Contact: +603 9779 6571, [email protected]

Capacity:

  • Seated: 1,148
  • Standing: 2,414

Website

Don’t judge the size of Zepp Kuala Lumpur because, although small, this state-of-the-art venue is impressive in sound quality, lighting, amenities, and experience. The sound system is powerful, but it needs the right balance to avoid distortion.

This is one of our favourite modern concert venues in Malaysia because it feels more intimate due to the small space. And the entry process? Insanely smooth, although it does depend on the artist’s event management team sometimes.

The place is also clean with an air conditioning system that works. The men’s and women’s toilets are far from each other (they’re located on opposing sides), and they’re well-maintained.

Getting here is a walk in the park. Simply get off at Hang Tuah LRT Station and follow the signage to Lalaport, then walk along Gourmet Street until you reach the venue. If you’re driving, go to the Lalaport or Malaysia Grand Bazaar carpark.

Pro Tip:

Bring a jacket because the air conditioner here is always on full blast! Freezing might put a dent in your concert experience.

Arena of Stars

Media credit: malaysiabookofrecords

Address: Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park – Resorts World Genting, Genting Highlands, 69000 Bentong, Pahang

Capacity: 5,132

Website

Arena of Stars is an amphitheatre that will give you a unique concert experience, thanks to its location in the Genting Highlands, a hilltop resort in Malaysia. It provides a more intimate feel due to its layout, so it’s perfect for first-time concert goers.

But if you’re going with older people, avoid the middle sections because the rows stretch out a little too much, so leaving your seat to go to the toilet will be uncomfortable and awkward. The accessibility is good, though, since there are 8 handicap seats.

Various local and international musicians have stepped on stage, such as Ronan Keating and CNBLUE. Our only gripe is the sound system, which is better because the bass sometimes sounds too excessive.

Pro Tip:

If you want to protect your ears from heavy bass, bring earplugs to dampen the sound. Something like Loop earplugs can reduce the noise while keeping the artist’s voice clear.

Mega Star Arena

Media credit: spartanlightings

Address: Sungei Wang Plaza – Level 1, 3, Jalan Bulan 2, Bukit Bintang, 55100 Kuala Lumpur

Seating Capacity: Up to 6,000

Website

If you want the whole concert experience with solid lighting and sound systems, Mega Star Arena is where the action is. The AV production team knows how to make a concert venue in Malaysia pop up, with consistent audio that doesn’t drown out the vocals.

Getting here is easy for locals and tourists. It’s located in a mall in Bukit Bintang, and is also very close to the monorail and MRT stations.

Post-concert experience is pretty smooth, too. Aside from a slow queue exiting the mall, the crowd disperses once you’re out, so going to the station is quick, although a food stop in Bukit Bintang is a good idea after singing your lungs out.

Pro Tip:

It’s best to take public transport instead of driving because the line at the car park will be long, sometimes taking around half an hour to exit.

Intimate and Smaller Concert Venues in Malaysia

Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS

Media credit: dewanfilharmonikpetronas

Address: PETRONAS Twin Towers, Level Two, Tower Two, Kuala Lumpur City Centre

Contact: 603 2331 7007, [email protected]

Capacity: 920

Website

The PETRONAS Twin Towers remain a versatile space. Aside from hosting a shopping mall and a discovery centre, it’s also home to the Dewan Filharmonik, a concert hall that has a spectacular interior and exceptionally tuned acoustics.

It’s like every wall is made to bounce back superb audio clarity, as all instruments harmonise perfectly. You don’t have to be a music pro to hear the clean and crisp music.

The layout is also incredible, as every audience member has a clear view of the stage and the performers, unless the person in front of you is tall.

If you need to get here, it’s child’s play. Simply take the LRT and hop off at KLCC Station. Easy peasy!

Pro Tips:

The mall is massive and finding the concert hall may be difficult. After exiting the train, simply follow the signs going to Suria KLCC.

Once you’re inside the mall, head straight to the Centre Court (it’s where the elevators are), then go up to Level G. If you see the exit, don’t go out and instead, look for the Box Office counter. For visual learners, click here.

Merdekarya

Media credit: kosa.muzik

Address: 352 First Floor, Jalan 5/57, Bukit Gasing, 46000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Contact: 018 661 4553 (WhatsApp), [email protected]

Capacity:

  • Seated: 65
  • Seated and Standing: 120

Website

At Merdekarya, concerts are more engaging and intimate. It only has a capacity of 120, giving attendees a chance to see the performers up close.

We were surprised at how solid the sound was here, even with the small venue. Sure, it was loud (you’re super close to the speakers, after all), but it was clear and free from distortion while being punchy.

But what sets this concert venue apart is the booze, which is a cool way to hype yourself up. You can grab a cocktail and grub before the show, like a Nasi Goreng Pedas and Ginger Beer Kaaww pairing!

Pro Tip:

Check their website or Instagram for updates. See who’s performing so you can listen to your preferred genre.

Bobo KL

Media credit: bobokl

Address: my Capital – 65-2, Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar, 59100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur

Contact: +60 12 263 8603 (WhatsApp)

Capacity: 70

Website

Feel the rhythm at Bobo KL, a club that focuses on jazz. But that’s not all there is, because it’s a multipurpose venue, where music, cabaret, theatre, and comedy performances are held.

This is super small—so small that you can almost hear the raw voices of the performers. You’re just steps from the stage, so there are fewer distractions, and there’s a sense of warmth between the artist and the audience.

What do we love about this place? The food and the drinks. Don’t feel pressured to purchase hard drinks, because the non-alcoholic refreshers are enough (the Coke Float is sweetly satisfying).

Pro Tip:

Try their popular Gourmet Nasi Lemak for post-show dining. You have to pre-order it, though, during headliner nights.
