5 of Our Favourite Aquarium Shops in KL and Why We Love Them
When I was moving out, one of my immediate realisations was that most condos and apartments in Kuala Lumpur only allow small pets. This is why last year, I decided to give in and buy myself a beautiful guppie.
What I didn’t know was that this was the start of a new hobby and like most hobbies, I’ve become totally hooked! Thanks to the abundance of aquarium shops in KL, I’ve added other fishes, decorations and cleaning tanks to my ecosystem.
So if you want to start your own aquatic ecosystem at home, you’ve come to the right place! I’ve listed down my go-to aquarium shops in KL below and talked about their respective pros and cons.

Ultima Channa Taman OUG is one of the most famous aquarium shops in Kuala Lumpur. I’ve always been fascinated by this store because of its wide selection of colourful fish.
I also appreciate how the store’s well-maintained at all times. It doesn’t just provide a pleasant shopping experience but also a habitable environment for their fish.
We can also see how well they take care of their products because all of them look healthy inside their respective tanks.
Customer service is also a huge factor in shopping here. The staff do a great job at patiently explaining important details like aquarium maintenance to newbie customers.
On the downside, available fish can be inconsistent depending on the day you visit. Some days, they’ll have beautiful species on display while other times, you won’t find anything special.

Whenever we pass the Sungai Besi Expressway, we always make it a point to make a pit stop at Reef Studio. Their selection never fails to wow us, as they carry an assortment of fish species from moorish idols to blue tangs, clownfish and more.
They’re also one of the few aquarium shops in Kuala Lumpur that offers fresh corals. Their selection is constantly refreshed and no two corals are the same! We also appreciate how the staff gave us some tips on how to maintain the corals we bought.
Our only gripe is their relatively difficult-to-reach location and limited parking space. They do make up for this by posting their selection on Instagram and catering to delivery orders through their DMs, though.

“Reef heaven. There is a lot variety of coral available, from sps lps soft coral. Got some advice about my new setup tank and they will help you. Also, a variety of marine fish for you to “wash eyes” and the price is reasonable. The only problem here is parking. Will come again later.“

3. Aqua Nature

Aqua Nature satisfies a different type of itch for aquarium owners. Instead of selling fish, feed, corals, etc., they offer spectacular aquascaping services.
They’ve been around since 2015 and since then, they’ve built quite an impressive portfolio as seen on their official website. Their creations are simply works of art, as they decorate aquariums with beautiful rocks, pieces of wood and even miniature structures like shrines.
What further impressed us was the natural materials they use, as they’re all great for improving the quality of life of the aquarium’s residents.
Plus, their store also has a section where you can pick out your decorations yourself before having one of their artists install them in your aquarium. The only downside here is they don’t sell fish.

With their overwhelmingly positive reviews on Google, we just had to visit Big Aquarium, and boy were we not disappointed. For starters, we were greeted by their vibrant selection of fish, which consisted of common species like goldfish, gourami and more.
Their resident fish species are well taken care of, as all their tanks are squeaky clean. The same can be said about the store too, as it’s well-maintained and organised, allowing for a smooth shopping experience.
We were undecided about which tank to pick, and Richard, a staff member, was patient and detailed in explaining our choices’ respective pros and cons.
However, we did hear some negative reviews from previous customers stating how they weren’t assisted by the staff when they dropped by. Although we haven’t experienced this ourselves, it would be great if Big Aquarium could be more consistent with their customer service.

Brickfish Aquarium and Pets is a one-stop shop for fish owners because they offer all sorts of essentials from food to cleaning products, aquariums, and more.
The biggest highlight, however, is their wide selection of fish! We also love how freshwater species are separated from saltwater ones, making shopping easier.
Brickfish Aquarium and Pets also offers aquarium maintenance services, and based on previous clients’ testimonies, they know how to get the job done! Another thing we appreciate is their helpful staff who are great at providing maintenance tips.
However, we do wish that they had an online store to make shopping more convenient. We do appreciate that they regularly post on their Instagram and Facebook pages regarding new additions to their collection, though.
Speaking of which, we recommend checking out their social media pages regularly, as they often post their ongoing promotions there.

Had a great experience
“I had a great experience in this place. Just set up a nice outdoor mini pond in pots and was looking for the perfect fish for these ponds.
Initially, I went to the old location, they just moved 1 week ago and upon calling, the owner was quick in responding and sharing the new location nearby.
Hopefully, I got the name right for the team that was there, Tia. She is really helpful in recommending which fish and plants would be great for my ponds and bought 15 beautiful male guppies for my ponds.
Advise on how to care for them and provide me with free chlorine test liquid before I introduce the guppies into my pond. Thanks a lot for sharing some nice videos with happy guppies in the ponds! :)“
