The 8 Best Black Credit Cards in Malaysia

A black card is an exclusive credit card that you can get with a good credit score and a high annual income. The most prestigious black cards in Malaysia are so premium that it shows you’re successful in life!

Curious about what the best ones are? Well, stick around as we review the top black credit cards in the country!

How We Chose the Most Prestigious Black Credit Cards in Malaysia

When we researched black credit cards in Malaysia, we wanted the ones that offer the best perks, have good security, and client assistance. To do that, we used the following criteria:

Reputation because the bank and credit card’s stature in the business ensures that the black card you will get in Malaysia is premium and has a good standing.
Benefits, including airport lounge privileges, purchase benefits, and rewards programs to ensure you will get the most out of it.
Charges, so we looked into the annual fees, interest rates, transfer rates, and other extra expenses the bank charges because not all credit cards have the same fees.
Client Support because having an elite card doesn’t mean it won’t get compromised. In that case, we eyed those offering good customer assistance to ensure they could fix any issues immediately, even when overseas.

One of the best things about UOB Infinite Card is the rewards you get when travelling abroad. It’s perfect for jet setters, in our opinion.

Aside from complimentary access to airport lounges, UOB Infinite Card also offers up to 20% discount at eligible airport dining shops. We also like that it has over 200 partners, which can be checked via the Dragon Pass mobile app.

Additionally, cardholders get limousine services at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). It’s also a plus that there’s 20% off on TBR Luxury Airport Transfer Service when you travel overseas. Talk about high-class travel, huh?

Let’s not forget the travel insurance you get with the UOB Infinite Card. It’s even up to RM500,000 insured, so that offers a ton of protection.

Sadly, we found that the discounted TBR transfer service is valid only until December 31, 2023. Also, the limousine service is available only if you spend RM5,000 in 30 days.

Honestly, our team was impressed with the travel perks. It’s useful if you travel overseas a lot because you get 8x UNIRinggit every time you spend RM1 in foreign currencies. That’s a great rewards exchange!

If you’re really high up in income, you might even get the invitation-only Privilege Private Visa Infinite.

Don’t worry, though! You can apply for the Visa Infinite black credit card as long as you’re at least 21 years old and earn a really high amount of RM120,000 per annum. For us, this is pretty high, compared to other black credit cards in Malaysia!

    Pros

    • Great for travellers
    • High points for foreign currencies
    • Offers discounts to over 200 airport dining shops
    • Has over 200 partner shops
    • Offers transfer services

    Cons

    • TBR transfer service discount is limited
    • Limousine service requires a minimum spend

What’s a factor that the OCBC World MasterCard has that made an impression on our team? It’s the low annual fees!

Aside from no annual fees during the first year, it’s only RM388 for the principal cardholder. Meanwhile, supplementary cardholders only pay RM188.

Frankly, we found those fees more affordable than other black credit cards in Malaysia!

Furthermore, we think the OCBC World MasterCard is also a great option for business go-getters! Why? It’s because of the unlimited cashback.

Your first RM1,000 of retail spending earns you 1.2%. Then, it’s 0.6% for the succeeding spending.

Moreover, it includes recurring payments, instalments, mail orders, telephone orders, and overseas purchases. We think OCBC is saying, “shop ’til you drop while saving on monthly payments!”

You can check your credit card statements on their online banking app. Although this feature is pretty much a norm these days, we like the convenience it gives.

Additionally, you can enjoy free access to the KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge. We just think it’s unfortunate that it’s only complimentary twice a year.

On the bright side, we love that travellers will enjoy the travel insurance of this black credit card, as the OCBC World MasterCard includes a complimentary RM2 million travel insurance. Just don’t forget to pay for your full airfare using this.

However, we’re just a bit iffy about the limited airport benefits. It’s pretty disappointing, especially because it requires a high annual income of RM100,000.

Despite that, our team likes this black credit card because of the cashback perks. If you shop a lot, you can definitely see the advantages of holding the OCBC World MasterCard.

    Pros

    • Great for shopping
    • Provides unlimited cashback
    • Affordable annual fees
    • No annual fees for the first year
    • Offers RM2 million travel insurance

    Cons

    • Limited airport benefits
    • Access to the premium lounge is only twice a year

If you’re looking for a black credit card in Malaysia that requires a smaller annual income, then Affin Bank World Mastercard is worth looking into.

You only need to earn a yearly salary of RM80,000! Based on our research, that’s one of the most affordable minimum income requirements in the country!

Though let’s be real. Despite being somewhat “affordable,” that’s still a high income to reach for most people.

As for the benefits, one thing that stood out for us is the golf privileges. You’ll get this as long as you spend a minimum of RM3,000 on your latest credit card statement.

With this privilege, you can enjoy a day off from your business travels and get access to some golf clubs in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

But keep in mind that some golf clubs in Malaysia only give you one round per month. Furthermore, we were saddened about the limit of four rounds each year.

On the bright side, you’ll get complimentary Plaza Premium Lounge access in the country and selected overseas locations. We think that’s useful for jet setters!

Additionally, you and your companion get 20% to 25% discounts on Plaza Premium Lounges if you don’t meet the required amount for free access. If you ask us, that’s a big discount!

We think it’s also a big plus that cardholders will get 3x AFFIN rewards points every time you swipe your black credit card in retail shops overseas using foreign currency.

Oh, don’t forget that Affin Bank will donate a portion to charity for every retail shopping you do! Generous, right?

Finally, we’re a bit downcast at the limited airport benefits. For instance, there are only several airport lounge options you can use outside of Asia, which is not ideal for frequent travellers to the other continents.

    Pros

    • Slightly lower annual income
    • Provides golf privileges
    • Donates to charity for every retail transaction
    • Has funeral expenses coverage

    Cons

    • Limited airport benefits
    • Some golf clubs only allow 4 rounds per year

What’s so impressive about AmBank Visa Signature, you ask? It’s the perks you get! There are so many to list, so we’ll start now.

Firstly, we love that it has a 24/7 concierge service with toll-free numbers in many foreign countries. The multilingual customer support staff can assist you with car rentals, hotels, ATMs, translators, and gift baskets!

Plus, you won’t have to worry too much if your black credit card gets lost or stolen. For us, one of the perks is getting a temporary card replacement and cash disbursement to keep you afloat during your travel.

Secondly, it’s a great cashback credit card in our books. With this, you’ll get cashback rewards when you use your AmBank Visa Signature on ApplePay, Grab, Lazada, Shopee, and other merchants.

You’ll also get an annual membership at the very fancy Club Marriott Malaysia with room and dining discounts. It makes shopping more fun, don’t you think?

Thirdly, we were impressed with the RM1 million in travel insurance. It keeps you and your family safe in case of risks while travelling abroad—who wouldn’t want some peace of mind, right?

Everything sounds great, right? But as things normally go, we found some drawbacks about AmBank Visa Signature.

One of the aspects we’re most iffy about is, although you get 3x rewards points for every overseas transaction, it doesn’t apply if you use it in Malaysia.

Moreover, the extra points don’t apply to online transactions as well. We found this disappointing, considering the high number of online shoppers these days.

We were also saddened when we learned that the golf privileges only last for March 2023. It was a good deal, too, because of the 75 pairs of rounds.

On a good note, getting AmBank’s black credit card means no annual fee for you and three of your supplementary cardholders…for life! Plus, the minimum income is only RM80,000 – sweet deal, right?

    Pros

    • Lower income requirement
    • No annual fee for life
    • Provides many benefits
    • Provides 24/7 customer assistance
    • Offers many cashback merchants
    • Has RM1 million travel insurance

    Cons

    • Rewards points don’t apply to Malaysia and online purchases
    • Limited golf privileges

One of the most expensive black credit cards we found is the Citi Prestige MasterCard. It’s for those who prefer to live luxuriously. Why?

Well, it’s definitely exclusive because the annual income you need to be eligible for this is *gulp* RM192,000!

Aside from that, you need to pay an annual fee of RM1,000. On the other hand, supplementary cards are free.

We appreciate that Citi Prestige MasterCard’s high-income requirement means a ton of benefits. Shopping with this black card means discounts to high-end shops, including CK Calvin Klein, LeSportsac, and Moschino.

Bear in mind that these brands can change. Though, for us, this means more chances to buy luxury bags and outfits!

Additionally, we love that cardholders can get exclusive deals on many dining options in foreign countries. Regardless of the currency, you can get discounts to upscale restaurants – even Michelin-starred ones!

However, we found that many deals are exclusive only to cards issued in specific countries. For a credit card with an expensive annual fee and income, we were very disappointed about this.

Another perk we love is the complimentary one-night stay at a hotel of your own choosing. Just remember to book this through the Citi Prestige Concierge and stay for at least four consecutive nights.

One of the things that we found amazing was Citi’s network of connections that you can take advantage of with the Citi Prestige MasterCard. You get complimentary access up to 12 times in over 1,000 airport lounges! Impressive!

Let’s not forget Citi’s global service, which means 24/7 assistance. You can even request regular tasks like delivery or help to book airline tickets.

Clearly, our team was impressed. But the high upfront fees are a definite roadblock for us!

    Pros

    • No annual fees for supplementary cards
    • Lots of benefits
    • Offers discounts to luxury brands
    • Has 24/7 global assistance
    • Provides complimentary one-night hotel stay
    • Access to over 1,000 airport lounges

    Cons

    • High upfront fees
    • Many deals are country-issued exclusive

Next on our list is Maybank Visa Infinite. We think it’s one of the most prestigious black credit cards in Malaysia because of its impressive perks and monthly prizes for cardholders every time they spend a certain amount!

We also like the fact that there’s no annual fee for the first year! You can still have it waived for the succeeding years as long as you spend RM80,000 a year—a pretty reasonable amount in our books.

Another aspect we like is Maybank Visa Infinite gives its cardholders access to the Plaza Premium Lounge for local and international airports. Some even include a meal set, so that’s a nice touch for travellers.

But for frequent jet setters, we think the Airport Speed Pass benefit is one of the best.

You don’t have to queue in long lines because the check-in and security procedure will be quick! That’s good if you’re in a hurry!

However, you need a private banking account with Maybank to avail of these Premier Wealth advantages. So, you may not get some of the perks if you’re a cardholder without a bank account.

Another benefit we love about Maybank Visa Infinite is its big discounts of 40% on hotel restaurants! Plus, you can bring up to nine people!

Furthermore, availing of Maybank’s black credit card means you get up to RM2 million in travel insurance. There’s a bunch of coverage, like lost luggage and missed flight connections.

But all these perks come with a pretty high price tag: RM100,000. Nonetheless, if you fit the bill, we definitely think Maybank Visa Infinite is a pretty nifty black card to have in your wallet!

    Pros

    • No annual fee for the first year
    • Includes Airport Speed Pass
    • Has 40% discount on hotel dining
    • Has RM2 million travel insurance
    • Has a lot of travel insurance coverage

    Cons

    • High annual income requirement
    • Requires a private banking account to avail of some benefits

Are you someone who likes the finer things in life? Well, you might want to check the RHB Visa Infinite credit card.

In our opinion, this prestigious black credit card speaks of luxury. To be eligible for this one, you need an annual income of RM150,000! A bit shocking, right?

Though, the good thing about this incredibly high minimum salary requirement means great perks! We’re definitely onboard since cardholders will earn 5x rewards points, every time they swipe your card while shopping overseas!

Also, unlike other black credit cards where shopping locally doesn’t earn you any points, the RHB Visa Infinite gives you 1x rewards points for every RM1 you spend.

You can also make yourself comfortable in Plaza Premium airport lounges because of its 20% to 25% discount.

In addition, the first 1,000 clients per month to avail of this perk will get unlimited access. But remember that this particular detail is only available in Malaysia and Singapore.

We’re just a bit dowcast for golfers availing the RHB Visa Infinite credit card. Though it has complimentary gold privileges, it only gives access to limited golf clubs—pretty disappointing for such a premium credit card.

On a good note, the RM2 million travel insurance coverage makes for the golf club’s limitations. That’s useful, especially if you like hopping from one country to another.

Overall, our team was saddened by the perks. We felt it should be more, especially with the minimum income it requires.

But the bright side of it all is the free annual fee. So, that’s something you don’t have to worry about paying for.

    Pros

    • Offers 5x rewards points for overseas shopping
    • Has rewards points for local purchases
    • Unlimited airport lounge access for the first 1,000 cardholders
    • Includes RM2 million travel insurance
    • Free annual fee

    Cons

    • Perks are a bit lacking
    • Limited golf clubs

If you earn RM90,000 per annum, then you can apply for a Standard Chartered WorldMiles Mastercard. We think this black credit card is a good option for individuals in Malaysia who travel a lot for work.

We think it’s noteworthy that Standard Chartered WorldMiles Mastercard gives cardholders unlimited access to Plaza Premium Lounges in participating airports.

Some black credit cards with higher annual income only offer a limited number of lounge benefits, so we were stoked to hear about this!

Moreover, you can get cashback on airport transfers for up to RM80! So, remember to swipe your credit card three times in foreign countries to get this benefit.

In addition, you can earn AirMiles a lot faster using this card. That’s a good way to travel!

You just need to spend RM3 and get 4.5 points and 1 point for overseas and local purchases, respectively.

Conveniently, Standard Chartered is known in over 50 countries.

Why is that important for us? Well, it’s because you can enjoy the many benefits in many hotels, shopping, and dining outlets in Asia – that’s up to 4,000 perks!

We also love that you can sit back and enjoy hotel, restaurant, and clothing store discounts.

But this prestigious black credit card is not only great for shoppers and jetsetters—it’s great for foodies too! For instance, Standard Chartered WorldMiles Mastercard gives up to 60% cashback from selected dining outlets.

With so many awesome perks, what’s the catch?

Unfortunately, Standard Chartered WorldMiles Mastercard has a high-interest rate of 9.88% for easy payment plans. The instalment period is also only up to 18 months, while other banks allow up to 36.

    Pros

    • Great for frequent travellers
    • Provides many cashback opportunities
    • Has many perks in over 50 countries
    • Unlimited airport lounge access

    Cons

    • Has high interest rates
    • Instalment period is only up to 18 months

Things to Consider When Getting a Black Credit Card in Malaysia

    1. Purpose of Getting A Credit Card

You need to consider your reasons for wanting a credit card. It’s great for building your credit score and can help you in the future regarding your financial status.

But remember that it’s still borrowed money. So, it’s important to keep track of your expenses and pay right on time to avoid interest fees.

    2. Rewards & Cashback

As a cherry on top, prestigious credit cards give you premium benefits through rewards points with every purchase. Some of these include hotel accommodations, air miles, clothing, and even grocery shopping.

Depending on your credit card type, you can also earn cashback and are eligible for discounts.

    3. Your Qualifications

Your bank will assess your financial status to check your eligibility before granting you a black credit card. Some banks will only issue black credit cards to existing cardholders with higher credit limits.

If you’re looking to get your first credit card, you may talk to your preferred bank so they can recommend the right one based on your financial status.

    4. Fees & Charges

Getting a prestigious credit card might sound exciting because of the benefits and rewards. It’s still borrowed money, so carefully checking the interest rates, fees, and other hidden charges will help you use this privilege wisely.

Financial experts advise their clients to pay them on time and in full to avoid the accumulation of interest.
