Growing up in a musically inclined family, our local guitar store in Kuala Lumpur was my version of a kid’s sweets shop. Even though we weren’t going to buy anything, I loved testing out various models and hearing how they played.
Now that I’ve grown up, the music scene in KL is way different, and the selection of guitar stores has grown significantly. Although it’s great for aspiring musicians, finding the right sound can be a bit overwhelming, especially for beginners, which is where my team and I come in!

Music Bliss caught our attention due to its extensive selection of products. For starters, they carry various brands of guitars, from entry-level names such as Yamaha and Cort, to more premium options like Gibson and Taylor.
Furthermore, the variety of types itself is impressive, as they offer classical, electric, acoustic, bass, and even 12-string guitars. What we appreciated the most, however, was that they offer packages that come with various accessories, which are great for beginners.
We also reached out to regulars of this store, and they told us that the reason they keep coming back is the helpful staff. They told us how knowledgeable their staff members were, and asked all the right questions to help them end up with the guitar that suited their preferences.
Our only gripe here is the lack of local affordable brands that sit below the RM300 range. However, the store somewhat compensates for this by offering regular sales throughout the year.

Guitarlicious.my was recommended to us by a friend who recently purchased a guitar pedal. They told us how varied the selection was, and how different effects were integrated with each one, so we had to take a closer look.

Swee Lee’s Flagship at Lot 10’s stunning showroom never fails to entice us to enter its doors whenever we pass by. Their variety of models is among the top in the city, offering shapes like telecasters, stratocasters, and Les Pauls, but made by different brands.
We also interviewed regulars, and they told us how shopping here is always a joy because of the vibrant community imposed by the staff members.
These professionals always lend their knowledge in helping customers find the perfect instrument and even encourage them to test their guitars.
Furthermore, regulars highlighted the in-house cafe as one of their reasons why they choose to shop here.
Aside from guitars, the store doesn’t fall short on other instruments like basses, keyboards, and drumsets. Moreover, they offer a myriad of guitar pedals as well as recording peripherals to attain that clean studio sound.
However, a handful of customers complained that it would take them several days to address inquiries regarding damaged products.

These workers were also praised for their high-quality workmanship on services like tune-ups and repairs. We’ve even had customers send photos of their guitars before and after a restoration, and the results always look brand new!
We also want to praise the store for its wide array of brands, from affordable to premium. They also offer various models, ranging from acoustic to classical and electric.
Furthermore, their store carries a myriad of effect pedals as well as recording equipment. It can be overwhelming at times, but thankfully, they have an online store that even offers express delivery.
The only thing they could improve upon is featuring more models per brand.

“Had a great experience in this store. The staff were very helpful and communicative towards me, which is important as I was getting some equipment to set up a small home studio.
Edgar helped me with finding the equipment I needed and was quite involved with getting the right product, which was great, as I got some information I was not privy to, regarding music from him.
We also had a great chat about music and things related to how music connects people, disregarding any form of separation and uniting people of all cultures together.
Moreover, they were highly supportive of my music and the goals I was progressing towards. To have gone to a shop looking for some equipment but walking out with much more than just hardware was a blessing!

Music Connoisseur’s sleek and clean showroom immediately piqued our interest. The way they display their guitars is similar to hanging artworks on walls, but we can confirm that the staff encourages play-testing.
Regulars also praised the staff members during our interviews, stating their knowledge of different instruments was a significant key in their decision. They even provide free tips on how to better care for guitars and achieve the specific sound that customers prefer.
We also appreciate how they offer an online store for more convenient browsing. They can also arrange express deliveries through their WhatsApp channel, which is responsive as well.
The variety of guitar types here is exceptional as well, as the store carries unique smart guitars. These models have built-in effects and are equipped with the latest tech for tuning, looping, etc.
As much as we love these innovative newcomers, however, we can’t help but wish that they would also carry well-known brands such as Yamaha, Gibson, Fender, etc.

“Bought 2 Sire basses from Music Connoisseur Starhill. Had a very good experience here, from contacting them through WhatsApp on the models that are available in the showroom, and testing them out.
Their staff, Aiman and Hafiz, are very friendly and helpful, and they let you try out the basses thoroughly.
They don’t have a dedicated bass amp there, but they do provide a multi-effect pedal and monitor amp, which is good enough for me to hear the tone of the basses.
