I don’t consider myself a high-level athlete but I do like to dip my toes in different types of sports from time to time just to keep myself active. I guess it’s also just because I live in Malaysia and trying out different activities is one of the things Malaysians do for fun.
Fortunately for me, KL-Selangor doesn’t fall short on sports shops! So, whenever I need new gear, I could just check out their shelves. However, it can sometimes be a tough task since there are sports shops that aren’t worth visiting.
The good news? I’m here to help you avoid them! Below are our team’s review of the best sports shops in Selangor and what we love about them:

1. Unixis Sport Store

When it comes to gearing up with new apparel, Unixis Sports Store is one of the go-to shops. In KL-Selangor. For starters, they offer a wide array of Football cleats that could cater to an entire premier Football club.
What’s more impressive is the amount of brands they carry, from Asics to Adidas, Nike, New Balance and more. We also appreciate that they offer a wide array of fashionable sneakers from these big brands so we can stay fresh on or off the court.
Furthermore, they also offer jerseys, pants, gloves and even socks! This makes them a great one-stop shop for anything gear-related.
The store itself is massive, but thankfully, everything is well-organised so shopping here isn’t overwhelming. Plus, we can always count on their staff members to assist us whenever we need to get something we can’t reach ourselves.
The only thing this store could improve upon is its selection of sports equipment, as it mostly offers apparel and footwear. For instance, we would’ve loved to see some tennis rackets, basketballs, boxing gloves, etc. on their shelves.

Decathlon is one of the best places to shop for sports gear if you’re on a tight budget. Their affordable selection of activewear, swimwear and more are life savers for when I want to update my gear but don’t have the necessary budget to buy big-name brands like Asics and Mizuno.
Aside from apparel, their selection of equipment is quite impressive as well. From water bottles to yoga mats, life vests, tennis rackets and more, their selection has just about everything.
The only downside is their slightly limited selection of big-name brands. Apart from Adidas, Nike and Garmin, the available brands are either in-house or lesser-known names.
We can’t knock on them too much though, as they do offer more affordable rates as opposed to other stores because of this.
Go-to for sports gear
“Decathlon Shah Alam is the go-to spot for sports gear! I picked up the Perfly outdoor badminton net yesterday, and it’s perfect for setting up a quick game anywhere. The quality is top-notch, and the price is also affordable.
Shah Alam store itself is awesome – a whole building dedicated to Decathlon with plenty of parking and a calm vibe. Just 15 minutes from home, so it’s super convenient for me. If you’re into sports and want great value, this Decathlon won’t disappoint!
Only suggestion: Decathlon should do more discounts and sales to attract even more customers!”

SportsDirect offers one of the most complete selections of sporting goods in Selangor. For starters, they carry tons of brands like Adidas, Nike, Puma, and New Balance, whether it be for their sneakers, athleisure wear, gym wear, etc.
Our favourite thing about shopping here, however, is the clearance rack. It’s located on the first floor and it features some of the most ridiculous steals in the market, from sneakers marked down to half price to 2-for-1 deals and more.
We also like that they offer products beyond apparel and sneakers. For instance, they offer high-quality badminton rackets made by Yonnex as well as basketballs made by Wilson, which is the same brand that the NBA uses.
The only issue we’ve heard about this store is that its customer service is a bit of a mixed bag. We haven’t personally run into some problems with their staff members but a handful of their previous customers were dismayed by their rudeness and unresponsiveness in online channels.
Shopping experience was good
“My shopping experience here at the factory outlet was good.
The staff (young chap in glasses, average height) recommended a Nike React Infinity Run Fk 3 for my size and daily training needs. When I checked the shoe out online, very strong reviews. And as it was discounted, the high price was no longer a factor.
The shoes at the factory outlet are from their other places too, maybe they have limited units and sizes left so they ship them here for clearance. Mine were 60% off from RM639 to RM249.”

Right off the bat, Hock Eng Sports Bangi wowed us with its wide selection of badminton gear and apparel. From Yonnex shoes to rackets, headbands and more, this store had just about everything to make a player feel like a pro.
Plus, we also liked how their staff members greeted us with the widest smiles. We weren’t into badminton at that time but they took the effort of explaining to us how each racket differs from one another so kudos to the team.
We also want to note that this store is one of the most affordable spots to get sporting goods. If you’re not into badminton, you can score cheap but comfortable clothes that are great for running or going to the gym.
Our main issue about this store is its slightly limited selection of sporting goods. We felt like they’re geared more towards badminton players, which explains the wide variety of their rackets and shuttlecocks.
Furthermore, we would’ve liked it if they offered an official website as opposed to a Facebook page. This way, customers can browse their shelves and potentially place orders online and save themselves from taking the trip to the store.

One of the main stars of the store is its badminton section, which features just about everything from wristbands to rackets, shuttlecocks, headbands and more. What’s more impressive is that they feature top-tier brands (like Yonnex).
Plus, they offer pickleball, table tennis and cricket equipment, all of which share the same high quality.
The best thing about shopping here is the customer service. We appreciate how knowledgeable they are, giving recommendations based on the customers’ needs, budget, etc.
As for its downsides, the main one is its lack of an official website, which we think should be a standard nowadays. Furthermore, we felt like their selection is a bit limited compared to other sporting goods shops.
