Top 9 Places that Serve the Freshest Oysters in KL
Growing up, I didn’t get the hype behind eating oysters because I was traumatised by that one Mr Bean episode—iykyk. I know that’s not the introduction you want to hear after reading the title, but it’s an important preface to let you know that I’m now completely converted!
In fact, I can now proclaim myself as the oyster king among my family and friend groups, with the countless seafood restaurants I’ve tried here in Kuala Lumpur. So, whether you’re looking for a seafood family dinner feast in KL or you’re simply craving fresh oysters, this is the sign!

SHUCKED Oyster and Seafood Bar
– Media credit: shuckedoysterbars, nacre.asia and pearltji
Address: The Gardens Mall, Lot T-218A, 3rd Floor
Contact details: +60 3-4812 9886
Operating hours: Daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
Cost: $$
You can always expect SHUCKED to have fresh oysters in their kitchen whenever you’re craving them! You’ll find its multiple branches across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, but we recommend their location at The Gardens Mall because of its accessibility.
They source all their oysters from the waters of cold countries like Ireland and France, so you know you’re getting the freshest ones. You’ll certainly taste their freshness with the briny flavour, which goes perfectly with their homemade mignonette!
Aside from their oysters, we also recommend this place for its other seafood offerings, like mussels, prawns, and smoked salmon. You can order their fish (cod) and chips if you’re coming with kids who aren’t huge fans of the taste and look of raw oysters.
Pro tip:
If you’re planning on commuting, we recommend taking the train and getting off at the Abdullah Hukum Station, which is located directly in front of The Gardens Mall.
Lemon Garden at Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Operating hours: Daily from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM, 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM, 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Cost: $$$
The only thing better than fresh oysters is UNLIMITED fresh oysters! That’s exactly what you’ll get if you decide to eat at Lemon Garden Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, thanks to their amazing seafood buffet spread.
The buffet also comes with everything you need to flavour your oyster the way you like, from butter to lemon slices and mignonette. However, we believe that the best partner you can choose is more seafood, so grab their massive prawns, mussels, and crabs as well!
We’re also a bit biased towards Lemon Garden because they offer one of the most impressive dessert bars we’ve seen in a buffet. Seeing it is like being a kid in a candy store again, and there’s something for everybody, from fruits to ice cream, cake, and everything in between.
Pro tip:
If you’re considering a stay in Shangri-La, we recommend checking the offers page on their official website! They’ll sometimes post promos on their rooms, dining, or both on select holidays.
BAIT

Address: 65, Jln Telawi 3, Bangsar
Contact details: +60 16-351 6588
Operating hours:
- Sunday to Thursday: 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM
- Friday and Saturday: 12:00 PM to 1:00 AM
Cost: $$
BAIT is one of our go-tos because of its slightly more affordable price compared to other places on this list. It’s also among the most hip oyster spots in the city, offering a modern cafe-like interior, complete with colourful walls and neon lights.
We also love that they offer different types of oysters, which differ in plumpness, texture, flavour, and size. We love ordering half a dozen of their Galaghers because we think it’s the meatiest out of the most—plus, we can’t get enough of its iodine aftertaste.
However, their oyster barely scratches the surface of their entire menu, as they also offer other seafood like mussels and salmon, as well as pasta, burgers, and even nasi lemak! Lastly, you can end your meal on a sweet note by ordering their burnt cheesecake!
Pro tip:
We recommend visiting during their happy hour, which runs from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM daily, to enjoy discounted prices on their oysters.
Hokkaido Seafood KL Main Branch

If you want to pair your fresh oysters with authentic Chinese dishes, then Hokkaido Seafood should be on your radar! Starting with their oysters, they come in three options: raw, garlic steamed, and ginger steamed.
The raw oysters are incredibly fresh, but don’t count the others out! The garlic-steamed oysters are fantastic if you’re looking for something more savoury, while the ginger-steamed ones have an unmatched aroma.
Aside from oysters, you can also enjoy a myriad of other fresh seafood delicacies like buttered lobsters, salted egg crab, and steamed tilapia! We also recommend ordering their authentic tom yum soup if you’re looking to add some more spice to your order.
Pro tip:
If you’re visiting with friends, we recommend ordering a plate of their Hokkien mee to share with the whole table. This dish pairs great with seafood and offers a touch of savouriness to the overall salty flavour of oysters.
Ombak Kitchen Bangsar

Address: 12, Lrg Ara Kiri 2, Bangsar

Operating hours:
- Sunday to Wednesday: 11:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Thursday to Saturday: 11:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Cost: $$$
Ombak Kitchen Bangsar knows just how to throw a seafood feast with its wide selection of delicacies and generous packages. Our absolute favourite thing about this restaurant, however, is that they offer extra-large premium Pacific oysters!
Aside from being massive, these oysters feature amazing flavours of iodine with a hint of sweetness. All they need is a bit of lemon juice, hot sauce, Bloody Mary, or all of the above to treat yourself to the perfect bite.
We also recommend this place for families and friend groups, mainly because of their premium sets, like Combo 8, which comes with lobsters, mud crabs, prawns, squid, rice, and more. Speaking of lobsters, they also offer cheese-stuffed Canadian lobsters—yum!
Pro tip:
Consider choosing this place if you know someone who doesn’t eat seafood! While you’re enjoying your fresh oysters, they can order a plate of their chicken wings, which feature a spicy Korean flavour.
Southern Rock Seafood

Address: 32, Jalan Kemuja, Bangsar Utama
Contact details: +60 12-385 0266
Operating hours: Daily from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Cost: $$$
Southern Rock Seafood is a fantastic option if you’re looking for variety in your oysters. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that they offer a more aesthetically pleasing interior compared to the usual seafood restaurants in KL.
They offer oysters from different parts of the world, such as England, Ireland, France, and Australia. You can also get them in packs, like with the Connoisseur Trio, which features the Gallagher Special, Sydney Rock, and Fine de Claire—that’s three countries in one order!
As someone who loves a bit of a kick in their oysters, however, we’re biased towards the oyster shooters, as they’re served on top of a Bloody Mary. We also love ordering their baked oysters because they’re topped with cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs.
Pro tip:
If you don’t want to add alcohol to your order but love the combination of zesty juice and oyster, we recommend ordering one of their mocktails. More specifically, the Blue Lagoon—thank us later!

Operating hours:
- Sunday to Thursday: 6:00 PM to 11:30 PM
- Friday and Saturday: 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM
Cost: $$$
Cielo Rooftop is one of the fanciest places you can get fresh oysters in Kuala Lumpur. It also has arguably the best views out of all the entries on this list because it offers its diners a clear view of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.
As much as we love the views, however, we have a feeling that you’ll be focusing on your food, more specifically, their fresh oysters! They offer Gallaghers, Fin de Claire, and Irish Premium, all of which are worth trying because of their plumpness, juiciness, and sweetness.
They also offer Angus tenderloin you can pair with your oysters if you want a DIY version of a surf and turf. If you’re feeling fancy, you can also order some caviar to add more flavour and depth to your oysters!
Pro tip:
If you plan on making this place a go-to for your oyster cravings, we recommend signing up for their Werner’s Privilege membership. It doesn’t have a sign-up fee, and it will grant you 10% cashback every time you eat in Cielo or their other restaurants.
Steam Era Seafood
– Media credit: joeyeharies
Address: 145, Jln Imbi, Pudu
Contact details: +60 17-323 4561
Operating hours: Open 24 hours
Cost: $
You can’t leave Kuala Lumpur, or Malaysia, in general, without visiting a steamboat restaurant, and it just so happens that Steam Era also offers spectacular oysters as well! They also offer affordable ones, so you don’t have any other reason not to stop by!
Their oysters are freshly harvested every day and aren’t cooked in any way to preserve their pristine condition until they’re served at your table. They’re served on ice alongside a couple of veggies, which is all you need to enjoy this dish.
Alternatively, you can steam them on the steamboat to enjoy a different type of texture and flavour. You can also use them as toppings for the glass noodles, which come with their signature black bean sauce!
Pro tip:
Balance out the salty flavours of your oysters by ordering a plate of their A5 Wagyu Japanese beef for your broth!
Bara On Six

Address: Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur
Contact details: +60 3-2332 9888
Operating hours: Tuesday to Sunday: 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Cost: $$$
Bara On Six is one of the classiest places to get fresh oysters in Kuala Lumpur, and it makes sense, considering that it’s located in an equally fancy hotel. You’ll find their oysters shucked and ready to be eaten on their ice bar, so that you can expect the utmost freshness!
They offer different variations, with the Irish Premium featuring sweet meat and the Fin De Claire offering a stronger brine flavour. They’re usually served on ice alongside mignonette, ponzu, and red pepper chermoula, but you can also choose to have them grilled or baked!
Other seafood we recommend from their menu includes the massive tiger prawns and baked crusted salmon. To wash off the fishy flavours, we recommend getting their sweet and refreshing coconut gelato!
Pro tip:
You can also check out Trader Hotel’s SkyBar after or before eating at Bara On Six to catch stunning Kuala Lumpur skyline views!
