Tonkatsu by Ma Maisen immediately caught our attention because of its fancy interior decor so naturally, we had to check it out for ourselves.

Right off the bat, one of the things that elevated our dining experience here is the beautiful presentation of their dishes. For instance, the rice, cabbage and pickles are stacked in a way that makes the overall plate a bit more picture-perfect as opposed to fast food dishes,

Speaking of food, the main highlight of their menu is the wide selection of tonkatsu, which we think they’ve nailed down to a tee. The skin is perfectly golden brown while the meat remains tender and white.

We also appreciate that they offer other dishes like prawns and deep-fried oysters, adding more variety to their menu. The only downside we’ve noticed is that they seem to take their time when serving customers, so we hope they can improve on this aspect.

Pros

  • Great selection of tonkatsu dishes
  • Wide variety of beverages
  • Premium ambience

Cons

  • Service can be a bit slow at times

Delicious and flavourful

“Second visit here. Overall, satisfied with their pork loin tonkatsu, chicken katsu and chicken katsu don meal. The chicken was well-tenderized, but the fried pork loin was a bit chewy and could have been better.

Refillable soup, rice and cabbage are a great plus. Free green tea if ordered for two sets is welcome. The pork-based soup was delicious and flavourful.”

Fantastic dining adventure

“I had a fantastic dining experience at Tonkatsu By Ma Maison in Main Place Mall. The tonkatsu was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, cooked to perfection with rich, authentic flavours.

The portions were generous, and the set meals provided a great balance of rice, miso soup, and fresh salad. The ambience was cozy and welcoming, and the staff was attentive, making the whole experience even better.

Highly recommended if you’re craving authentic Japanese tonkatsu. Definitely a place to return to“

Tokuya Subang SS15 is a go-to of ours whenever we’re craving authentic Japanese food because of its widely varied menu. For starters, they offer a huge plate of salmon sushi rolls that’s great for sharing.

Speaking of sharing, they also offer sets that consist of staples like Japanese fried rice, sushi rolls, sashimi, salad and chicken karaage.

Their karaage is worth highlighting on its own because of its perfect crispy golden brown outer shell. However, the real star of this set is the sashimi, as they’re as fresh as they come.

Ambience-wise, we appreciate the bustling and no-frills vibe that they’re going for, as it replicates the authentic streetside restaurants of Tokyo.

Our only gripe with this restaurant is that their serving size is inconsistent. For instance, we couldn’t be more thrilled about the amount of salmon rolled sushi they offer by plate, but at the same time, their seafood rice bowl feels more like a kid’s meal.

Pros

  • Wide variety of Japanese favourites and lesser-known dishes
  • Affordable rates
  • Friendly customer service

Cons

  • Some dishes have small servings

This is the best one

“I have been here many times and always my choice. Out of many Izakaya houses, for me, this is the BEST ONE.

Authentic Japanese food with a high-quality environment and service, two drinks after work will definitely make you forget the fatigue and stress of the day.

Something cute is that the boss and staff will sing and dance with customers to celebrate National Day, I believe they always have small events like this. This really makes me feel warm”

– Boo Yin, Google Review

Highly recommend this place

“I have visited twice now and had a satisfying dinner experience both times. I have not tried the other main dishes yet, but the beef tataki is good quality for the price! Also, it can be a little busy during peak hours so the service can be slow, but the staff is friendly and helpful.

If you are looking for Japanese food or Izakaya near Subang Jaya / SS15, I highly recommend this place”

We found out about Ramen Mob Taipan from a friend during a rainy day craving and it has been a mainstay in our household ever since. One of the reasons for this is, of course, their authentic ramen noodles.

However, what makes this place special is the amount of customisation they offer their customers for the type of meat, flavour of broth, etc. At the same time, we appreciate that they offer classic flavours like Shiro chashu ramen and Kuro Yakibuta ramen.

The place itself is also worth highlighting, as it looks and feels like an authentic ramen restaurant that you’ll find in the streets of Tokyo. Furthermore, it’s well-maintained and spacious enough for a comfortable dining experience.

The only thing they could improve upon is their customer service, as a handful of customers have voiced their dismay about the restaurant’s slow serving times. However, we do think that this is because they’re always jampacked, which is a testament to the quality of their dish.

Pros

  • Vast customisation options for ramen noodles
  • Wide variety of sides and add-ons
  • Clean, comfy and spacious

Cons

  • Customer service could use some improvements

Mind-blowing

“The spicy mala ramen was mind-blowing. U can taste the distinct flavour of the mala. My wife had the aka abura masezoba, which was perfectly creamy and flavourful, with just the right hint of spicy. We also had the yangnyeon karaage, spicy and nice. Customer service is excellent.

We had a really good walk-through of the menu offered and awesome recommendations for our dinner. This is my new hang-out spot since my office is very near this place.”

– RealGopal Nair, Google Review

I am happy with the service

“Ramen Mob offers a delightful take on Hakata-style Japanese ramen. The broth is rich and flavorful, with a perfect balance of umami and spices.

The noodles are fresh and cooked to an ideal texture, and the toppings, like chashu pork and marinated eggs, are of excellent quality. The restaurant’s atmosphere is casual yet trendy, making it great for both quick meals and relaxed dining.

The staff are friendly and efficient, ensuring a pleasant experience. While some might find the shio ramen taste to be lighter than other restaurants, its lighter taste is very suitable for children.“

Ryoshi Izakaya is a welcoming restaurant with a lively atmosphere. It features design elements like lanterns, banners, a sushi bar and even a karaoke section, adding more immersion to the overall dining experience.

That aside, we love their great selection of authentic dishes. For starters, they offer a wide variety of yakitori, which features the perfect amount of char.

Moreover, you’ll also find a myriad of rice bowls on their menu that are great for quick bites like the katsu don. Everything about this dish is nailed to a tee, from the texture of the pork katsu to the richness of the egg-fried rice.

We also love that they offer different types of sushi rolls like unagi, salmon mentaiko, ebiten tobiko and, our favourite, California maki roll. Kudos to their quality too, as all the ingredients they use for their dishes are fresh and delivered daily.

Our main gripe with this restaurant is that it’s almost always packed, which is why we recommend booking a reservation in advance. Furthermore, we think that some dishes like the grilled salmon feature small portions even though they’re on the pricier side.

Pros

  • Great selection of Japanese dishes
  • Fresh ingredients are delivered daily
  • Lively and inviting atmosphere

Cons

  • Some dishes have small portions
  • Almost always packed

Yakitori grilled food is very good

“Came to the restaurant early and witnessed a delivery of a lot of fresh seafood before they opened. They have a wide variety on their menu, I’m surprised because we ordered a bit from each section and all of it tasted delicious.

Their yakitori grilled food is very good, you can smell the charcoal flavour from the grill. The yaki soba and okonomiyaki were just the right flavour. The seafood was fresh as expected.”

– Ching Wen Ning, Google Review

Fresh and yummy

“Food is delicious, fresh and yummy. Service is fast except for selected dishes which require a slightly longer time to serve as stated in the menu which is understandable.

I would rate high in the atmosphere as the decoration is great, especially the ground floor but the ambience was noisy when we dined in on the first floor, perhaps they could have some acoustic treatment.”

We stumbled upon TEN Omakase when we were craving some sashimi after a long doom-scrolling session on social media. We couldn’t be happier with this discovery too, as it offers one of the most varied sashimi selections we’ve seen in Subang Jaya.

They offer these fresh slices of fish through different types of sets. For instance, their kaigai set offers various types of sashimi like mirugai, baby shako, nama hotate and even fresh Japanese oysters.

One of the things we love the most about this place is its knowledgeable staff. Personally, we weren’t familiar with some of their dishes and our server was kind and patient enough to explain what they were to help us order.

However, we do wish that they could improve their serving times, as they can take a bit too long for our liking. Furthermore, the prices can be viewed as a bit too pricey for some customers.

Pros

  • Premium-grade sashimi
  • Offers set for great deals
  • Warm and welcoming ambience
  • Widely varied menu
  • Knowledgeable staff members

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Long serving times

Really enjoyed this awesome dinner!

“Came here on Sunday evening for a birthday celebration, very quiet environment, only us and another couple. Took the Hana menu as my first experience with Omakase. I could say I really enjoyed this awesome dinner!

Chef Ling was really good and professional, explaining to us each menu using which part of seafood. The extraordinary experience we had, and will definitely come again!”

– Cien Yoong Hee,  Google Review

Great food for the price

“Great food for the price. One of the best Omakase experiences in Subang Jaya for sure. The chef and staff were warm and friendly. Nice ambience”
