Tired of the bland and easy-to-make meals you prepare at home? Don’t fret! It’s never too late to learn a new dish or two, especially if you reside in Kuala Lumpur, where a plethora of establishments offer amazing cooking classes—that’s where we come in.
God knows how many nights I’ve prepared ramen noodles as a dish because of pure laziness, but all that changed when I enrolled for a cooking class in Kuala Lumpur!
So if you want to be the next Gordon Ramsay of your home or you simply want to replicate the delicious local dishes in Malaysia, you’ve come to the right place. Here are some of the best schools that offer great cooking classes in KL:
How much do cooking classes cost in Kuala Lumpur?
Cooking classes usually start at RM40 per hour depending on the course and the school itself.
1. LaZat Cooking School

- Tuesday to Saturday: 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM
If variety is at the top of your priority list, then LaZat Cooking School should be right up your alley! Throughout the week, it hosts a myriad of courses that teach its students the wonderful dishes of Malaysia, from Nyonya cuisine to Southern favourites, street food staples, etc.
What’s more impressive is that they have all the facilities (which are all well-maintained, may we add), to cater to these different dishes. You won’t have to worry about ingredients too, as you’ll get to pick them out yourself thanks to the inclusion of market tours in their packages.
As for the classes themselves, they’re highlighted by their students as being welcoming and interactive. This can be attributed to the classes’ amazing instructors who have several years of experience under their belts and their fun hands-on teaching style.
Our only gripe with this cooking school is its pricey rates. However, we do appreciate that they put market tours as optional add-ons to lower the prices a bit.
Cannot recommend them highly enough
“Another sensational class at LaZat cooking school. Thank you so much to Ana, Irene, Doreen and especially our teacher Vivian, learn something new every time I come here, this was my 5 th visit and definitely won’t be the last.
Cannot recommend them highly enough. True Malaysian cooking at its finest, Cheers”

Kitchen Showdown Malaysia is the master of making learning fun with its unique and engaging cooking courses.
For instance, they offer a course called “Amazing Race”. It takes after the game show it’s named after where participants will have to race against time to make different types of appetisers and desserts.
Another course that caught our attention was their Mystery Box challenge, which we’re sure you’ll be familiar with if you watch the hit TV show, Masterchef. Here, students will have to make a 3-course meal from pre-determined ingredients hidden inside a box.
Furthermore, we also appreciate that they feature a bake-off competition to give students new recipes about baking and put them into practice to win bragging rights. It’s courses like these that gave us the impression that Kitchen Showdown values fun just as important as learning.
A great way to bond while learning new culinary skills

Cuisine Boleh Cooking Studio is a great place to try cooking classes in Kuala Lumpur thanks to the impressive selection of recipes they offer in their courses. Their recipes can be divided into two: pastry and cooking, and each category offers tons of dishes.
The best thing about going to any of their classes is their head chef, Jean. We’ve interviewed his past students and they had nothing but praise to share about Chef Jean, noting his passion and engaging presence during their classes.
We also appreciate that they offer online classes that are just as fun and full of learning as their in-person sessions. Students of any age can enjoy these easy and interactive classes thanks to the fun and engaging instructors.
The only problem we have with this cooking class is its above-average price range. However, when you consider how in-depth each class is and how decorated and qualified Chef Jean is, you’ll easily understand that the classes offer great value for money!
Cozy and inviting
“We had an amazing experience! The place is cozy and inviting, perfect for a team-building event. The service was outstanding, and Chef Jean made us feel very welcome.
The pool was fantastic and provided a great space for team bonding. Special thanks to the chef for guiding us through the recipes and cooking—everything was prepared to perfection. Highly recommend!”

We had lots of fun
“Chef Jean excellently handled 10 senior citizens in his cooking class. We had lots of fun. He was so obliging as well as entertaining. We learned so much from him. Some of the ladies even tried his recipes at their home already.
Thank you for making my birthday a special one!”

ABC Cooking Studio immediately caught our attention with its myriad of cooking courses. They offer courses that tackle different dishes such as Japanese home cooking, international dishes, cakes, pastries and more.
What’s great about this cooking school is that its classes vary per month to keep things fresh and interesting for students throughout the year. For instance, if you want to master Italy’s finest pasta, you can enrol in their September classes.
Of course, what makes or breaks these courses is the instructors themselves and after interviewing their previous students, it’s safe to say that they’re fantastic as well.
One student mentioned how hands-on and patient their instructor was, which created a safe learning environment for them and their classmates.
The only downside here is the expensive rates attached to each cooking course, which can be immediate red flags for potential students. Moreover, we wish that they would introduce online classes soon.
Guided me very well
“I went for a trial class here, and San Yi has guided me very well, she is amazing and very friendly.
I also signed up for a package after that, and Michelle guided me through my first lesson. I learned a lot from both Michelle and San Yi.
Michelle made my baking experience more enjoyable and fun. I enjoyed learning from both of them.
The environment is also very clean and positive. I really enjoyed my time here.”

A fantastic experience!
“Took a Swiss roll baking class at ABC Studio Garden, and it was a fantastic experience! The studio is spacious, spotless, and fully equipped with everything you need.
My friend brought me along for a trial session, and for only RM65, I learned to make a Swiss roll from a meringue base and got to take the entire cake home!
The instructor was incredibly experienced and guided us through every step, making each part so simple and approachable—even for a total beginner like me. I was genuinely impressed with how easy it felt to follow along.
ABC Studio offers more than just baking classes; they have cooking and other culinary options, too.
With a full membership, you even get access to classes at other ABC Studios in different countries, which is a fantastic perk. Highly recommend for anyone looking to try their hand at baking or cooking!”

5. Sarang Cookery
Courses: Peranakan meals, snacks and desserts

Sarang Cookery piqued our attention because of its love for Peranakan cuisine. They offer amazing courses that teach the most famous Peranakan food and the best part is that they don’t charge a hefty price!
One of the things we love about Sarang Cookery is that you can see the passion that their instructors have for this diverse cuisine. They don’t only teach students how to cook but instead, they help them fully grasp the traditional and unique ways of preparing Peranakan meals.
Aside from the meal itself, their cooking course also provides a thorough rundown on how to prepare the different desserts of this vibrant cuisine.
The only downside of choosing this cooking class is its limited courses, as the curriculum mainly focuses on Peranakan dishes. Furthermore, we wish that they would extend their operating hours, as they’re only open five days a week at the time of writing.
Can’t wait to return
“A must-visit! Lily and her mum are talented chefs and warmer hosts. Peranakan food is becoming a lower-supplied cuisine so coming here was a real experience. The food is all fresh and clean yet so flavourful, leaving you feeling light but satiated.
A lot of the ingredients are grown on-site if not sourced locally. Everything feels well-curated. Can’t wait to return and learn to cook some of these dishes to bring home! Thanks for having us.”

Amazing opportunity
“Amazing opportunity to learn authentic Perhentian Malay cooking. Brilliant retreat away from the busy KL itinerary. Very accommodating and understanding.
We had a 3-4hr experience. Very clean environment. Encourages the whole family to sign up. Enough stations for everybody to cook.”
