Hiking in Sri Bintang Hill

The Ascend

Usually, the beginning is the difficult part of the hike, but since Sri Bintang Hill is a beginner-friendly trek, it’s a walk in the park! Of course, you gotta put some elbow grease in, but that’s part of the fun, right?

The ascend starts off slow and steady, with many paths being well-maintained and shaded by the lush tall trees scattered across the hill. There are some winding paths here and there, but they’re nothing you can’t handle for sure!

Our favourite thing about the ascent, however, is how the city noise gradually becomes muffled before eventually disappearing completely as you get higher. The horns and street noise will then be replaced by beautiful sounds of nature, which is pretty amazing.

The Toughest Part

Of course, it wouldn’t be a satisfying hike without some sort of challenge, right? Well, luckily for you, the most challenging part of this trail isn’t even that hard making it perfect for people with no prior hiking experience!

The reason why we say this is because the most challenging part of the trail is simply a steep slope. At first, you can take it slowly and stop from time to time to smell the flowers and enjoy the shade while it lasts because the trees will start disappearing the higher you get.

Once you get to the most challenging parts of the slope, you’ll be provided with a strong rope that spans up to the peak. This rope serves as a guard rail of some sort akin to those you’ll find in staircases, helping you stay balanced as you ascend the slope.

The Reward

Regardless of whether the steep slope posed a challenge or not, one thing’s for sure and that is the sweet reward that awaits you at the peak. The peak offers the best views in the entire hiking trail, as it overlooks Kuala Lumpur including the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.

The Petronas Twin Towers is one of the most iconic skyscrapers in Malaysia, so seeing it from this perspective is a great pleasure, especially if it’s your first time in the country. You’ve probably seen this tower as a massive titan up close, so seeing it so small is such a crazy sight.

It’s also here where you can spend as long as you want to recuperate while enjoying the cold breeze. Also, don’t forget to take tons of photos to share on your social media feed and show the world that you’ve conquered the famous Sri Bintang Hill!

The Descent

Naturally, the descent is way easier compared to the ascent, as you can sort of cruise your way through the trail while enjoying the views. Of course, it’s still recommended to remember your basic hiking tips—after all, you can’t be too ready for something!

During your descent, you may also encounter other visitors who are there to either jog, walk or hike like you! It’s common courtesy to greet one another along the way, so be sure to get that smile ready.

All in all, this hike will take around an hour and four minutes depending on how much time you plan to stay at the peak. Once you’ve made your way back to the trailhead, you can give yourself a pat on the back, as you’ve just conquered a 2.3 km hike!
