The 5 Best Preschools in Johor Bahru Where Tiny Steps Lead to Big Dreams

  • Language Development - We focused on how well schools help kids pick up multiple languages early, since that's so important for getting ready for local primary school.
  • Scheduling Flexibility - We know parents need childcare that fits long hours and tough commutes, so we paid extra attention to programs with reliable afternoon transportation and full-day care options for busy families.
  • Curriculum and Environment - A top preschool should have a strong, clear learning plan and spaces where kids can learn by doing. That’s why we checked for teaching methods that really work and classrooms that are well-organized.
  • Teacher Qualifications - We made sure the staff have proper diplomas and keep getting professional training, instead of just acting as casual babysitters.

Finding the right early learning spot for your little one can feel completely overwhelming, especially with the daily hustle of commuting or managing a busy household.

We all want an environment that keeps our kids safe while building a solid foundation for their future education. To help make your decision a little easier, we spent time looking into the options around town to find the best preschool in Johor Bahru.

RSQ Kids Academy’s structured framework focuses on teaching early problem-solving skills alongside standard academic subjects.

They follow national curriculum standards, but go a step further by introducing early reading and writing in Malay, English, and Arabic.

You’ll also find that they have great full-day hours at all eleven of their local campuses.

One parent we spoke to, whose daughter attends the Bandar Baru Uda branch, told us she loves how the afternoon transit program makes life easier.

Her child gets both academic prep and religious lessons like IQRA and the Quran at school, so there’s no need for extra evening pickups.

Just keep in mind that the school’s schedule is built entirely around Islamic values and daily group prayers, which means it’s not a fit for non-Muslim families.

Some branches also operate out of standard commercial shop lots. This can lead to limited outdoor spaces and minor parking congestion.

Cons

  • Lacks a secular option

I can see the effort the educators put into nurturing the children’s development

RSQ is definitely a good school with a caring environment and committed teachers. My son enjoys going to school, and I can see the effort the educators put into nurturing the children’s development.

However, I would love to see more emphasis on English language exposure—especially through speaking opportunities and engaging activities that encourage conversation. This would further support the children’s confidence and fluency as they grow.

The learning program is very structured and fun

RSQ Kindergarten is the best choice for my child. The teachers are very caring, patient and professional. The learning program is very structured and fun. The kindergarten environment is clean, safe and conducive. My child has shown excellent progress in terms of academics and social skills since studying here. I highly recommend RSQ Kindergarten to parents who are looking for a quality kindergarten.

Plus, throughout the day, children learn in English, Chinese, and Malay, which helps them become comfortable using all three languages.

The only thing to note is that the school splits its core program into separate morning and afternoon shifts, so if you need traditional full-day care, you’ll have to sign up for both sessions.

The curriculum includes coding, leadership modules, and dedicated trilingual lessons to build a strong multilingual foundation before primary school.

The school leadership is highly qualified, too, led by a principal, Ms. Toh, who holds a master’s degree in occupational psychology. On top of that, they’ve built an excellent reputation in the community since opening in 2008.

When we spoke with a local parent who uses this center, they emphasized how much the low staff turnover helped their child feel secure.

However, because of their high student retention and popularity, families frequently face long admission waiting lists.

Pros

  • Longstanding reputation since 2008
  • Strong trilingual language foundation
  • Low educator staff turnover
  • Integrated all-in-one enrichment ecosystem

Cons

  • Lengthy admission waiting lists

We are grateful for this group of teachers who are experienced and well-trained

I would like to say THANK YOU to Clover as my two older children have attended their courses since babies (Kindermusik) then Montessori preschool kindergarten. A friend of mine recommended and I am thankful to her recommendation. Now my youngest is attending the Kindermusik class while waiting to be old enough to enter their Montessori program. We are grateful for this group of teachers who are experience and well-trained. They are the people who make the place. When we enrolled our youngest, it’s like going home. Haha.

They were well guided academically

All three children of mine (currently aged 14, 13 and 6) had their preschool education at Clover Learning Centre.

They were well guided academically. They were also confident to embrace their new chapter of life as they moved into Primary 1.

Clover Learning Centre is the best choice that I have made for them.

5. MindKids Preschool @ Johor Bahru

mindkids-preschool-johor-bahru

Website: https://www.mindkids.com.my/

Address: 16, Jalan Songkit 3, Taman Sentosa

Contact: +6011-7260 6186 | [email protected]

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm

By blending hands-on Montessori learning with the structured Malaysian National Preschool Curriculum, MindKids Preschool gives students a solid academic head start.

Every day, children get consistent exposure to English, Malay, and Mandarin, which helps them transition smoothly to primary school.

Families appreciate the continuous support from toddler programs all the way to after-school student care.

This kind of stable foundation plays a big role in long-term academic success, so when it comes time for competitive MBA universities down the line, this school has already set students up with the framework they need to get there.

If you’re thinking about sports and outdoor activities, though, keep in mind that the urban location means outdoor space is more limited compared to a larger, private campus.

Pros

  • Convenient location for East JB commuters
  • Continuous care from toddler to primary
  • Aligned with national preschool standards
  • Practical day-to-day trilingual focus

Cons

  • Limited physical outdoor footprint
