Operating hours: Tuesday to Sunday: 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM

Restoran Kin Kin isn’t for the faint of heart, as it’s the home of the original chilli pan mee. Okay, we may have overreacted with that statement, but do expect to break a sweat when slurping on their noodles with crazy levels of heat!

Being spicy isn’t the only thing their pan mee is known for, either, as they don’t skimp out on toppings like poached eggs, ikan bilis (anchovies), and tons of minced pork. Plus, the noodles are perfectly firm, allowing for a satisfying slurp!

The place isn’t anything fancy, and we like it that way! Its brightly coloured canteen-like interior will welcome you with open arms, and the ever-present aroma of spicy noodles will immediately hook you onto your seats.

Pro tip:

You can easily commute here by riding the train and departing at the Medan Tuanku station, which is only a 6-minute walk from the restaurant. You can also take a bus to KL71 Komersial Tar, which is also within walking distance of the restaurant.

Super Kitchen Chilli Pan Mee has multiple branches across KL, each beloved by locals for its overloaded bowls. Don’t be overwhelmed by its looks; you’ll eat through this dish in minutes because of its excellent combination of flavours!

This dish’s toppings include ikan bilis, crispy garlic crumbs, minced meat, chives, and a heaping scoop of chilli. However, our favourite is the poached egg, as we love breaking the yolk to make the soup even richer!

We also love dining here because of the charming and cosy interior. It features the iconic monoblocks and tables found in several humble eateries in Malaysia, but the main attraction of the interior is the wide selection of colourful vases.

Pro tip:

If you want to add more crunch to your order, we recommend getting their deep-fried dumplings! These feature perfectly crispy shells packed to the brim with flavourful minced meat.

If variety is what you’re looking for, then Jojo Little Kitchen should be on your list of places to visit in Kuala Lumpur! They offer over 15 variations of pan mee, with each one varying in toppings, soup flavour, and noodle type.

We love their classic hot and spicy soup, and we always choose the thick noodles because they absorb the broth’s flavours better. Their lat jiu comes in a close second because of its irresistible minced pork, anchovies, spinach, and poached egg.

Eating here is a treat because they offer air-conditioning, which definitely helps when slurping on their spicy noodles. At the same time, we appreciate how they maintain an authentic eatery feel with their simplistic cement walls and ceiling fans.

Pro tip:

If you can’t get enough of their signature chilli, you can buy a whole plastic container to bring home and spice up your mundane dishes!

Kung Fu Smooth Pan Mee

Operating hours: Tuesday to Sunday: 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM

Cost: $

Kung Fu Smooth Pan Mee is a legendary eatery in KL that has been around for over 20 years. As the name suggests, it’s mostly known for the wide and smooth noodles found in its traditional smooth pan mee.

The flavourful broth and fried anchovies also pair well with these silky noodles. However, don’t overlook their dry pan mee, as they’re just as great, featuring the same thick noodles but this time with a distinct brown savoury sauce.

Eating here will make you feel like a local, as you’ll be dining at one of their roadside tables and plastic chairs. The al-fresco area also offers cool red lanterns and various Chinese-inspired decor that add depth to the otherwise lacklustre ambience.

Pro tip:

Avoid visiting during lunchtime if you’re planning on dining in. They get the most customers from around 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and they’ll usually close their doors at 2:30 PM.

Dining at Restoran Deli Lotus feels more like eating at a friend’s or a relative’s house than a restaurant. It’s been around since 1988, and it has retained its vintage and no-frills look until today, allowing for a nostalgic and homey dining experience.

The place offers a wide variety of Malaysian delights, but it’s mostly known for its hearty bowls of pan mee. One of the things we immediately noticed about their pan mee was its generous portion size, as the plate we got was overflowing with noodles and toppings.

Aside from the silky noodles, we were delighted to see heaping servings of minced meat, mushrooms, black fungus, and fried anchovies! The anchovies also add umami to the overall broth.

Pro tip:

If the streetside parking is already full when you get there, the closest public parking space you can go to is AP PARKING TAMAN MALURI, which is about a 5-minute walk away from the restaurant.

Madam Chiam Curry Noodle House will immediately welcome you with its open layout. Plus, it’s hard not to enter their doors once you get a whiff of what they’re cooking up in the kitchen!

Chances are, you’re smelling their intense curry pan mee, which can captivate the heart of any spicy food lover. This curry tastes authentic, with hints of coconut balancing out the overall tangy broth—a true Malaysian staple.

They don’t skimp out on toppings either, with each bowl coming with a hearty serving of shredded chicken, bean sprouts, and long beans. Plus, the noodles are perfectly al-dente—the Italians will be proud!

Pro tip:

Don’t be afraid to ask for more chilli flakes if you want to add some kick to your pan mee! To make it better, add a squeeze of their lime to your broth; both this and the chilli flakes are free, so make the most out of them!

Tian Ya Ker Pan Mee is one of the OG pan mee spots in Kuala Lumpur. It has been around for more than 40 years and has never strayed from the traditional way of making hand-pulled noodles.

Their method results in a more springy and supple noodle texture that’s all the more satisfying to slurp with hot broth! Moreover, each serving portion features a generous serving of pork and mushrooms—talk about great value for money!

We also love dining here because of their delicious chilli sauce, which you can add to your delight via a convenient squeeze bottle. Be careful, though, as a drop of this secret sauce can make a huge difference!

Pro tip:

Order their fishballs if you want to add more sinkers to your already overloaded bowl of pan mee!
