13 SS2 Cafes That House Amazing Coffee, Pastries, and Brunch
SS2 is an inner suburb in Petaling Jaya that’s mostly known for its lively food scene. It’s home to several restaurants and hawker stalls that showcase Malaysia’s rich cuisine but in this blog, we’re going to focus on its amazing cafes.
As a sucker for cosy spaces and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, I feel lucky to be living within close proximity to SS2. It’s not only home to the best cafes in PJ (cafes in pj), but in KL, in general, and I’m here to share my favourite spots with you!
So whether you’re looking to study, eat brunch or catch up with your friends, here’s every SS2 cafe that should be on your radar:
Kooky Cream

Kooky Cream is more than just a cafe, as it’s also among the best dessert shops/bakeries in Kuala Lumpur and its surrounding area. Here, you’ll be amazed at the different types of cakes they bake every day that look straight out of your favourite cooking shows.
You’ll immediately feel like a kid in a candy store when you see these round and sliced cakes displayed behind their glass counter. You can either get something fruity like their strawberry shortcake or something chocolatey like their Nutella Crunch—either way, you’re in good hands.
These cakes are so attention-grabbing that their coffee selection takes a backseat, but don’t be fooled! Their coffee drinks are just as good as other cafes, as they’re expertly brewed by their talented baristas.
Pro tip:
If you want to bring home some of their baked goods, the best thing you can order is their cookie sets! These come in cylindrical containers that house several of these amazing treats ranging from chocolate chip, sea salt, pistachio and more.
Rekindle

Rekindle is another amazing cafe that doubles as a dessert shop, with its wonderful selection of freshly baked goods. We don’t know the background of its name but from what we’ve seen, we think it’s because it’s able to rekindle our love for sweet treats as adults!
One of the biggest highlights here is their selection of decadent cakes, which feature flavours such as red velvet, peanut butter, chocolate and more. They also serve unique flavours such as pandan gula melaka if you want your cake to have a touch of local flavours.
They also serve a limited selection of coffee drinks, namely white, black, butterscotch and affodato. If you want to add more sweetness into the mix, however, you can order a non-coffee drink like their chocolate milkshake and ice-blended Oreo.
Pro tip:
If you don’t know what to order, it would be best to stick with their bestsellers like their burnt cheesecake series! Meanwhile, you can order their macaroons if you want to get something for the entire table.
Mei by Fat Spoon

Mei by Fat Spoon is a great spot to chill if you’re looking to try authentic Japanese dishes but in a cafe-like setting. Their menu will greet you with the likes of this cuisine’s staples such as salmon bowls, salmon sashimi, miso soup and more.
What’s more amazing is they all feature generous servings, allowing you and your company to share multiple dishes. A perfect example of this is their big lemongrass chicken poppers with avocado salsa mayo—yum!
They also offer a solid selection of drinks like their fresh-pressed juices that use an amazing combination of ingredients like greens, apples, pineapples, ginger and more. If you’re not a fan of that, don’t worry because they also serve coffee, matcha and tea!
Pro tip:
If you’re planning on making this cafe your next family dinner destination, we recommend calling in advance to make a reservation. They can get pretty busy at times so this can come in handy if you don’t want to wait in long queues.
Flakes

If you want to catch up with your friends over brunch, then Flakes should be on your radar! It’s a quaint coffee shop that can serve as the perfect peaceful place for you and your friends as well as the perfect backdrop for your OOTDs, with its beautiful high ceiling and minimal interior.
It’s also famously known for serving some of the best croissants in the city because of its perfect flakiness and fluffiness. Plus, they’re used in different ways, one of which is being buns to make a hybrid croissant steak sandwich.
If you ask us, however, enjoying it warm with a knob of butter is still one of the best ways to eat this freshly baked pastry. Furthermore, you can pair them with your favourite lattes, americanos and other types of coffee!
Pro tip:
If you’re on the go but you still want to enjoy their delicious coffee, we recommend ordering their cold brew! This drink has a fantastic shelf life and it comes in these handy bottles that you can easily carry and store in your fridge.
The Glass House

The Glass House is arguably the most beautiful cafe in PJ and one of the most Instagrammable cafes in KL, in general. This is hugely thanks to its floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which allow breathtaking sunrays to enter the store.
Furthermore, the dishes themselves are presented neatly akin to those found in cooking shows but with a brunch twist. Here, you can satisfy both your hunger and your tastebuds by ordering brunch staples like meaty burgers, pasta, sandwiches and full breakfast meals.
If you’re looking for something sweet, you can also order their fluffy pancakes, which can be decorated with Nutella, berries, chocolate truffle and cocoa powder. Moreover, they serve a myriad of delicious espresso-based coffees like americanos, lattes, cappuccinos and more.

If you have a night planned out, you can also start your pregame here by ordering one of their draughts beer and house-pour wine! Speaking of wine, they have a more extensive menu that you can request by ringing up their service crew.
Half & Hāfu

Half & Hāfu is a hidden gem that features unique drinks and dishes that will make you stay for hours on end. For instance, the main star of their menu is their selection of round cakes, which are as fluffy and flavourful as they come!
These cakes can also come in various flavours, our favourite of which is the black forest. Also, this decadent cake pairs perfectly with one of their coffee drinks, whether it be their cafe latte, flat white, cappuccino, etc.
The real highlight here, however, is their selection of matcha drinks. For instance, you can either get the traditional matcha latte or try something refreshing and new by ordering their matcha orange combination or their matcha strawberry latte.
Pro tip:
Consider coming to this cafe if you’re looking to change your look as well, as this coffee bar doubles as a hair salon! This way, you can sip on some high-quality cup of joe while you get your well-earned makeover.
Dujour Café & Dujour Dining

If you’re looking for someplace fancy for your next coffee catch-up with your friends or your partner, then Dujour Café should be on your radar. This place features a minimalist yet elegant interior that will immediately make you feel like you’re in a fine-dining establishment.
But don’t fret because you can treat this place as you would your typical cafe where you can spend hours winding down alone or with friends. Plus, it also helps that they offer a wide array of Western dishes that are equal parts delicious and filling like their classic cheeseburger!
You can also treat yourself to sweet treats like their signature waffles and french toast, both of which can be decorated with various sauces and berries. Furthermore, you can pair all of the food we’ve mentioned with their premium quality coffee—what more could you ask for?
Pro tip:
Visit during the weekends to enjoy their amazing brunch buffet at only RM47 per pax! Their spread offers everything from mains like cheeseburgers, fish and chips, and pasta, to desserts like their homemade ice cream, cakes and pastries.
ONO Specialty Coffee & Matcha

ONO Specialty Coffee & Matcha is perfect for coffee connoisseurs, as it’s one of the best places to get artisan coffee in SS2. They offer unique espresso-based combinations that turn your regular coffee into something more refreshing and dare I say, better!
One of the most perfect examples of this is their coffee signature, which features Ethiopian coffee mixed with pineapple, orange, cinnamon, lemon and soda water. It’s definitely an acquired taste, but for some reason, all the ingredients fit each other like puzzle pieces!
The same combination of ingredients can also be used in their matcha latte, which tastes just as good. If you ask us, however, the best matcha concoction they have here is their strawberry matcha latte—not too sweet while still featuring that distinct green tea taste.
Pro tip:
Ordering their signature chicken bites is one of the best things you can do if you’re looking to order something for the entire table. It comes with a nice citrus aioli on the side that perfectly complements the flavour of the breading.
The blanc Cafe

The blanc Cafe is one of the many hidden gems scattered around SS2 and it’s deserving of your attention. For starters, the overall charming and serene vibe of the cafe makes it a great place to study, reflect or hang out with your friends!
Secondly, they serve a wide array of amazing Western brunch classics that feature amazing flavours and generous servings. One of the best examples of this is their chicken and waffle combination, which is the perfect pair of savoury and sweetness.
They also offer a myriad of drinks, ranging from coffee to non-coffee, allowing them to cater to people with different tastes. For the former, we highly recommend their cafe latte because of its rich and creamy body and as for the latter, we heard that their iced fruit tea is pretty great!
Pro tip:
If the cafe is already full when you get there, you can order your food and drinks on the go and head across the street to reach the beautiful SS2 Park. Here, you can arrange a charming little picnic and enjoy the nice cold breeze courtesy of the greenery.
Bimba Cafe SS2

When it comes to afternoon tea time, Bimba Cafe SS2 is up there with the best places to be because of its extensive menu. Starting with their drinks, they serve from coffee to tea, chocolate drinks and even milkshakes!
Their milkshakes are great options during those hot and humid days in KL, especially when you see the flavours they come in! One of our personal favourites is the choco shake, which consists of chocolate-flavoured ice cream, syrup, biscuits, cocoa powder and of course, milk!
If that’s not enough sweetness for you, then their dessert menu will tell you otherwise! Here, you can indulge in various cheesecake flavours such as Oreo and Biscoff as well as traditional round cakes like chocolate and salted caramel.
Pro tip:
Dogs are 100% welcome here so make sure to bring your fur babies to treat them to a nice afternoon tea time! Bimba Cafe SS2 features a separate menu named Doggo Nom Nom where you’ll find freeze-dried salmon, duck and other goodies.
Coffea Coffee SS2

Coffea Coffee is a cosy spot where you can enjoy a serene ambience while sipping on expertly made coffee. One of the things we love about this place is that they allow you to choose between two different beans, with each one featuring notes and dashes of acidity.
Deciding on the bean is just the beginning, as they feature an extensive menu of various coffee types. From sweet variations like hazelnut lattes to creamy flat whites and cappuccinos and more, the options here cover every coffee lover’s preferences.
Although a bit limited, they also serve a variety of light bites to pair with their aforementioned drinks. These meals include pasta such as aglio olio, carbonara, chicken bolognese, and a handful of sandwiches.

If their branch at SS2 is out of your way, don’t worry! You can also check out their stores at Taman Desa, The Curve, Sunway Pyramid and KL East Mall.
Annie Day Coffeetiam

Right off the bat, we noticed that Annie Day Coffeetiam features one of the most varied coffee menus in SS2. To start, they offer a handful of locally brewed coffee, including the famous Ipoh white coffee, which features amazing flavours of condensed milk and margarine.
They also offer a separate Italian coffee selection, which uses beans that feature subtle notes of nuts, cocoa and caramel. This extensive menu features all the staples from vanilla lattes to Americanos, macchiatos, mochas and everything in between.
To top it all off, they also offer a wide array of non-coffee options, ranging from teas to frappes, refreshers and chocolate drinks. Our favourite out of the bunch is their strawberry frappe, which is the perfect sweet and cold treat during a humid day in Kuala Lumpur.
Pro tip:
If you want to end your meal on a sweet note, we recommend ordering their decadent brownies! These are served with a massive scoop of their vanilla gelato on top, which melts over time due to the brownies’ warmth—yum!

With Extraction–SS2’s wide selection of brunch items and baked goods, it would be impossible to leave its doors with an empty stomach. Whether you’re looking for steak and eggs, salad, pasta or any other Western brunch staple, you’ll find them all here!
One of our favourite things to order here is their homemade sourdough, as they’re super crispy—just the way we like it! This bread comes with any of the meals you can find on their menu, which is such a steal!
