No matter how old I get, one thing that’s not going to change is my love of hamburgers—and I’ll take that to the grave! It’s handy, meaty, and packed with condiments and ingredients that complement each other, which, as a kid, blew my mind!

Fast forward to today, and it has become my comfort food, which is why I feel like it’s destiny that I wound up living in Kuala Lumpur. The capital boasts several burger joints from cheap chains to Western restaurants, fine dining spots, etc.

So if you share the same love for this dish, then tag along with me as I gush over my favourite burger spots in KL here! Who knows, maybe this is where you’ll discover your next go-to spot for juicy hamburgers.

If I were to put my money on the best local burger in town, it would be myBurgerLab’s ayam gepuk aburi burger. It puts a spin on the classic cheeseburger by adding local flavours like spicy sambal, peanut sauce, and a spread of tangy mayo—oh, and it’s torched to perfection.

Of course, their menu still features the classic hamburgers we’ve all grown to love, from the classic cheeseburger to the hot chicken sandwich, and more. We also love how they’re inclusive, as they offer meat-free burgers that taste just as amazing!

However, they’re not afraid to put their spin on the aforementioned classics, which is best showcased in their “Jammin w/ Elvis” cheeseburger. It’s a hybrid between a burger and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, where the patty is slathered with peanut sauce and blueberry jam.

Pro tip:

If you want to hold a burger/barbeque night at your home, you can get everything you need to make myBurgerLab’s sandwiches from their official online store! This includes their patties, buns, chicken thighs, and more!

As soon as you see the name Killer Gourmet Burgers, you know that you’re in for something good. Fortunately, they live up to the name, as their burgers are truly to die for, from the perfect char on their patties to the freshness of the ingredients!

One of their bestsellers here is the Bella Bomb Tower, which features a large slice of portobello mushroom on top of their patty. Paired with some melted cheese and their homemade shack sauce, it’s the ultimate recipe for a mouthwatering sandwich.

It’s also clear that they take inspiration from Shake Shack, a famous burger joint in the U.S., and it’s perfectly showcased in their animal-style burger. It differs from the usual cheeseburger by featuring a generous serving of caramelised onions, which adds another layer of umami.

Pro tip:

Consider coming here if you’re looking for common ground with your vegetarian friend or if you’re living a meat-free diet yourself. They offer a Southwestern salad as well as a vegan burger that features a pistachio patty.

Burger on 16 is the quintessential Western-style burger joint, complete with rustic interior designs, wooden trays as plates, and chalkboards as walls. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without the burgers themselves, and boy, do they feature a lot of them!

For starters, they offer staple variations such as the classic American burger and double cheeseburger. However, they’re not afraid to go overboard with their ingredients, like with the Milano pizza burger, which features a beef pepperoni pizza as a top bun.

That’s not even their craziest burger, either! If you want an eyecatcher that tastes meaty and spicy at the same time, you MUST order their California cheese skirt burger, which features fried cheese.

Pro tip:

Consider treating this restaurant as a refuelling station after you’ve exhausted yourself riding the thrilling attractions at Berjaya Times Square Indoor Theme Park! The restaurant is located right across the mall!

Woodfire Burger features some of the craziest variations we’ve seen in KL, and you won’t have to look further than their double patty burger to understand this. It’s a burger that solves the dilemma of choosing between a chicken or a beef patty by simply featuring both!

That’s just scratching the surface of what they have to offer, however, as their menu features ten gourmet burgers! Another highlight from this selection is the brisket burger, which substitutes the usual patty with a freshly smoked beef brisket—yum!

Speaking of briskets, you can also enjoy them on their own by ordering the platter, which also comes with a side of curly fries. Finally, we recommend ordering one of their milkshakes to end your meal on a sweet note—pro tip: order the Biscoff flavour!

Pro tip:

You can easily commute to Woodfire KL by riding the MRT and departing at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail MRT station. From there, you only have to walk about 3 minutes to reach the restaurant.

Sometimes, it doesn’t take more than a burger, a milkshake and some fries to put a smile on a person’s face, and Pasadena Burger & Coffee knows this all too well. For starters, their burgers may just be the most Instagrammable ones we’ve seen in Kuala Lumpur.

They’re more than just lookers, either, as each one tastes amazing, regardless of which variation you choose. If you want our advice, we recommend getting the double cheeseburger, which features two thick patties along with tomatoes, caramelised onions, and crispy cheese.

The fries are what you’d expect from a place like this—crispy, soft, and salty. Meanwhile, the milkshake does a great job of providing a balance from the meatiness of the burgers by offering creamy and sweet flavours like chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla.

Pro tip:

If you REALLY want something cheesy, we recommend getting their dipping cheeseburger. Aside from featuring a thick cheese slice, this burger is served alongside cheese sauce so you can dunk it as you would an Oreo into a glass of milk.

Saudi Burger is KL’s answer to fast-food burger chains, but don’t be deceived because their offerings are more gourmet than you think. They’re made meticulously and always come out Instaworthy, whether it be their burgers, fries, or ice cream.

One thing you should immediately know about this restaurant is that all of their burgers feature chicken patties. However, we have a feeling you won’t miss beef patties here, as their chicken burgers feature delicious sauces like cheese, barbeque, black pepper, and K-spicy.

Two noteworthy sauces from their selection are the mystery and Habibi sauces. The former resembles a spicy version of a ketchup and mayo sauce, while the latter is their signature peppery yoghurt concoction.

Pro tip:

As much as we love pairing their burgers with milkshakes, don’t overlook their coffee selection! They only offer Americanos and lattes, but they’re on par with the ones you’ll find in other fast food chains for a much cheaper price!

The BRGR

Menu

The BRGR is the ultimate burger lover’s paradise, as it offers an unlimited burger buffet that features eight of their beloved variations. One of the standouts from this selection is the dirty cheesy burger, which is your typical cheeseburger topped off with a ladle of oozy cheese sauce.

If that’s a little too overboard for your taste, you can enjoy their classic Aus burger, which features a thick Australian beef patty, lettuce, and cheese. They also offer delicious spicy, sweet, and sour chicken sandwiches if you want to lay off beef.

Aside from the burgers, this buffet includes boneless chicken, pasta, fries, drinks, and ice cream, which is great value for money. They offer three flavours of ice cream, but the best one, in our opinion, is the mint chocolate chip—don’t knock it until you try it!

Pro tip:

Don’t be confined to the items available on their buffet! There are dishes that aren’t present there that you could be missing out like their dessert waffles, which feature overloaded toppings like fruits, nuts, chocolate sauces, whipped cream, and ice cream.

Mean Mince immediately stands up from its competition by offering deep-fried burgers, which is the perfect definition of a cheat meal. This burger features a beefy patty weighing around 125g along with caramelised onions and cheddar cheese, wrapped in homemade bread dough.

They also offer traditional burgers that feature their signature smashed patties and all the fix-ins you can expect, like cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. If you’re hungry as a horse, you can take on their 720g smash burger, which has nine of their smashed patties.

As for sides, you can get their deep-fried mozzarella sticks, which feature one of the most impressive cheese pulls we’ve seen! They also offer mac and cheese balls and buffalo chicken wings if you want a bit more crunch and carbs with your sides.

Pro tip:

If you’re coming with a group, you can order one of their deep-dish pizza, which features overloaded cheese and toppings like mushrooms, fries, etc.

Fowlboys cemented itself as one of the best spots to get fried chicken in KL by offering the juiciest and most flavourful sandwiches, thighs, and wings. It’s a great spot if you’re craving thick burgers but want to avoid beef.

Their OG chicken sandwiches feature a thick chicken thigh, fried to perfection to have a crispy golden brown skin and tender meat. You can also get the spicy buffalo version if you want something with a bit more kick with your sandwich—it also comes with ranch!

If you’re avoiding meat at all costs, you can order their vegetarian sandwich aptly named, the con artist. It does a great job of tricking you into thinking it’s real chicken meat when in reality, you’re biting into a tempura mushroom!

Pro tip:

You can also order their classic chicken and waffles if you’re visiting during brunch or if you simply want something heavier.
