5 Aquatic Pet Shops in PJ You’ll Immediately Be Hooked On

As someone whose day-to-day consists mainly of eating, working, and going to bed, getting a pet was one of the best recent decisions I made. 

However, I wasn’t quite ready for the full commitment of high-maintenance pets along with their life insurances, so I turned to aquatic pet shops in Petaling Jaya.

It was here that I found my new pal in the form of a vibrant Siamese fighting fish, which surprisingly requires low maintenance. Before reaching this decision, however, I had to scan multiple aquatic pet shops across PJ, and I’m here to share my top picks with you!

Fish Depot is one of the most famous aquatic pet shops in PJ, which was apparent when we saw how packed it was during our visit. Still, we were impressed because, no matter how crowded it was, the store didn’t feel cramped, thanks to its spaciousness and well-organisation.

We also want to commend the staff members because we were immediately attended to, even though we weren’t sure if we were going to buy anything. Also, we could tell how well he knew the store’s products and aquascaping itself because of how informative he was.

The store is also well-equipped with just about everything a starting or a pro aquarium owner might need, from tanks to decorative and maintenance products. 

These products are also of high quality, especially the tanks, which were highlighted as long-lasting during our interview with their customers.

Our only issue is that they sometimes take hours or even days to respond on their online channels.

They truly care about fish lovers

Easily the best fish shop in town

“Easily the best fish shop in town, and I’ve been to many when trying to set up my tank. The lady owner was very helpful with information and respectful of my preferences. Prices are decent as well, plus the snail and shrimp I purchased are very healthy. 

I signed up for the membership on my first visit, and committing to be a repeat customer for a store that’s a 1-hour drive away from me is not something I do every day.

2. Aqua Paradise

Aqua Paradise was recommended to us by a friend who is an avid aquascaper, stating that it features one of the most complete selections of aquarium products. 

Upon seeing the store in person, we immediately noticed their tanks displayed outside, as well as their colourful varieties of fish. Right off the bat, we also noticed how well-organised the store was, featuring different sections for specific products, like cleaning and decorating.

Their collection features clown fish, blue tangs, flower horns, guppies, and more. We were surprised to discover that they regularly hold promotions, like BOGOs, on their different types of fish.

The store also offers aquarium cleaning services, and we must say, the before-and-after photos we’ve seen from previous customers look night and day. Plus, the quick turnaround time is impressive!

Our only gripe is the lack of an online store. Additionally, the store’s location in a residential area makes it challenging to find nearby parking spaces.

There were so many types of fish

“It’s a big fish shop that’s very well designed to entice people to come and see their fish! Came across this place while driving around SS2! Parking wasn’t very easy to find, though. Had to go into the neighbourhood and park at the roadside.

Upon entering, the place had very good lighting and was also very clean. There were so many types of fish from different countries, like China, Indonesia, etc. 

Fishes also looked quite healthy, but there were some that were cramped up in small enclosures or had peeling scales/fins/faces.

I’m not sure of the price range, if it’s expensive, but they are having some offers like “buy one, get one” for the baby koi fish! Enjoy!”

3. NMS Aquatics Sunway

NMS Aquatics Sunway is one of our go-to spots even when we’re not planning on making a purchase, just because of how well it presents its selection of fish. The interior features a sleek look, characterised by dark walls, with the lights primarily emanating from the tanks.

With that said, the selection of fish they have in store is impressive as well, featuring multiple species, from guppies to goldfish, and even crustaceans like shrimp and crabs.

Furthermore, they offer a wide variety of aquascaping products, including cleaning agents, filters, decorative plants, rocks, and more.

Honestly, the selection can be overwhelming at first, but thanks to the prompt and friendly customer service, it’s easy to find what you’re looking for.

One area where their customer service shines the best is in their Aqua Care plan, a subscription-like product that includes aquarium installation and maintenance.

The only downside is the limited operating hours, as they’re only open three days a week.

A zen place

“Went to their shop a month ago with my family and love the setup of the shop! All black, looks very sleek. They bring in quite unique species of fish, crabs, snails, shrimps, etc.

Nilufar Pet & Aquatic is a well-known pet shop because of its wide variety of options, featuring both land and aquatic animals. It also helps that it’s located in one of Petaling Jaya’s famous malls, making it a convenient store location.

We’ve purchased a couple of accessories for our home aquarium, and their selection of aquascaping products never gets old. From cleaning agents to decorative plants, rocks, filters, etc., they carry all the essentials!

Their aquarium design and maintenance services are also top-notch. We reached out to fellow aquascapers, and they’ve highlighted this store’s maintenance service as being thorough and having quick turnaround times.

Moreover, the selection of fish species they carry doesn’t disappoint. They offer common breeds, such as guppies, and rare ones, including Chinese algae eaters, albino angelfish, and red tiger oscars.

One thing they could improve is their customer service, as we often find them understaffed during our many visits.

Beyond five-star

“I have been to countless pet shops, but I must strongly recommend this one. Their service is beyond five-star service. I have supported them for almost seven years. Every time my pet enters their store, it feels like coming home. 

They also carefully bathe my pet and check for skin allergies all over the body. The employees are also very friendly. It feels very comfortable and kind to communicate with each of them. Becoming a member can also get discounts on pet products. 

I dare say that it should be difficult to find a pet store as responsible as theirs outside, so my pet and I have been supporting it until now.”

Truly admire her dedication and patience

“I was in the store at the same time and saw everything that happened. The staff member was already assisting me when the other customer kept ringing the bell, despite her already saying she would be right there.

Kok’s Aquarium deserves a spot in this review thanks to its tenure. I even remember coming to this place when I was a kid, and I was surprised to see that the same spacious store and impressive collection of fish and birds were still here.

The spacious nature of the store isn’t too overwhelming, as everything is well-organised. For instance, all the food is categorised separately, while various species of fish are housed in different tanks.

Moreover, we appreciate the friendliness of their customer service, as we’re never greeted without a smile. Plus, the staff is always helpful in recommending products to us that would suit our needs based on a brief conversation.

The store also offers decorative aquarium pieces, some of which can’t be found in other aquarium pet stores. This includes their massive driftwood and rock selection. 

However, the store is showing signs of its age, from the old cages to the lack of air-conditioning, paint chippings, etc, so it would be great if they could do some upgrades for a better shopping experience.
