6 MMA Gyms in Malaysia That’ll Help You Become a Total Badass

Coaches: We tried to search for gyms with friendly and credible coaches, with specialisation in MMA, wrestling, boxing, etc.

Classes: Next, we considered the variety of disciplines they offer as well as their quality.

Atmosphere: We also checked whether the overall vibe of the gym was welcoming, competitive, or beginner-friendly.

Gym: Complete equipment and well-maintained spaces were also a must during our research.

Accessibility: Next, we considered their accessibility based on their location and operating hours.

Cost: Lastly, we looked at how reasonable their fees were.

Ever since the stacked card of UFC 317 (still sad about that knockout BTW), I’ve never been more motivated to try out mixed martial arts for self-defence, or to improve my quality of life.

One thing I’ve learned is that the right gym has friendly coaches, solid vibes, and, of course, the right equipment. For the past few months, I’ve been researching and checking out different MMA gyms across Malaysia that tick these boxes to help you find a gym that feels like home!

So, whether you’re looking to add another skill up your sleeve or you simply want to equip yourself with self-defence tactics during your solo travels, keep on reading!

What is the average cost of MMA gyms in Malaysia?

The fees in MMA gyms in Malaysia range from RM150 to RM500 for monthly memberships, RM30 to RM50 for single classes, and RM80 to RM200 hourly for private lessons.

One thing that immediately stood out to us about MuayFit in Kota Kemuning is its sense of community. From what we’ve gathered during our interviews with their students, it’s clear that the gym offers a family-like environment.

We also appreciate how welcoming the gym is to new students, which can be attributed to the coaches’ friendliness. Students were fond of sharing their time with the coaches, highlighting their immense patience when they were just starting.

The gym offers both Muay Thai and boxing as its main principles, and the coaches have mastered them both immensely. We’ve seen workout and sparring videos from their students, and we could see how the coaches move with finesse.

They can also cater to kids, which is a testament to their patience!

Our only complaint is that they currently offer only two principles at the time of writing. Still, it’s not that big of an issue, as the level of Muay Thai and boxing classes they offer is elite.

Pros

  • Diverse range of workouts
  • Welcoming atmosphere
  • Patient and skilled coaches
  • Caters to kids as well
  • Accessible location and hours

Cons

  • Limited to Muay Thai and boxing

A second home

“Years with MuayFit truly made it feel like a second home.

MuayFit offers a diverse range of classes from high-intensity workouts to calming yoga sessions, equipped with good-condition equipment and providing excellent facilities and friendly staff that add to the overall experience.

To me, what makes MuayFit really stand out is the sense of belonging. During my time at MuayFit, attending the classes, the professional coaches always ensure everyone feels inclusive regardless of fitness level, guiding us throughout the training session and sharing with us fitness tips.

I joined group classes and to me it is really fantastic with positive vibes! I get to make friends with members there, we are all there to support, motivate and even celebrate each other birthday. From strangers, we are all turns into friends that share the same fitness goals.

MuayFit is more than just a place for members to work out; it offers a very supportive environment that makes fitness a shared journey for all the members.

After all, I am glad that I found MuayFit.”

Incredible experience!

“Had the chance to visit MuayFit today, and it was an incredible experience! I was assigned Coach Mr. Davis for my trial class, and his guidance was exceptional.

He patiently broke down each Muay Thai technique in detail, ensuring I understood the movements and avoided any risk of injury. The gym environment is clean, energetic, and welcoming, making it perfect for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike.

What’s more, the class pricing—whether for group sessions or personalised one-on-one coaching—is affordable and offers great value for the quality provided. A big shoutout to the MuayFit team for their professionalism and dedication.

Highly recommended for anyone looking to get into Muay Thai!”

Website

Monarchy MMA is one of the most well-known gyms in Malaysia because of its multiple branches and complete set of equipment. We did an ocular of their City Centre branch and were impressed with the number of punching bags and how it featured a complete gym.

The City Centre branch was also spacious, as the weight-lifting gym was separate from the mats, where sparring and wrestling mostly take place.

One of our favourite things about this gym is the variety of principles they offer, ranging from wrestling to boxing, jiu-jitsu, etc. We also love how they have different coaches who specialise in each one.

We also interviewed people who inquired about Monarchy MMA, and we didn’t expect to get answers from mostly parents who enrolled their kids. They told us how the coaches taught their children with utmost patience and how the kids themselves didn’t want to leave the gym.

Our only gripe is the somewhat hot environment, since the AC is almost non-existent in the gym.

Pros

  • World-class instructors
  • Complete equipment
  • Wide variety of principles
  • Beginner-friendly
  • Multiple branches
  • Accessible location

Cons

  • No AC at times

Professional and patient

“Whenever my grandson is back from Singapore to KL for his school break, I will arrange for him to do BJJ private training, and this time I decided to give a try for the Kid Group Class with Prof Joao Pantoja @ Bangsar Branch.

My grandson loves his class and is enjoying himself very much. Prof Joao is highly professional and patient with the kids. Moving forward, I will attend both private training and group classes.”

Everyone was so lovely and welcoming

“My 4-year-old had his first BJJ class here yesterday. Everyone was so lovely and welcoming. My son has never joined in on any classes I have taken him to, and he did the full hour here!

He had the best time and keeps asking me when we are going back! Looking forward to coming back.”

Versus Combat Sport piqued our attention because of its community while we were researching MMA gyms in Penang. We were met with an outpouring of positive responses from their beginners, highlighting the uplifting attitude of both the coaches and other veteran students.

They were also generous enough to offer videos and photos showcasing their progress, and we were surprised to see their improvements in just a short amount of time. They shared that this was mainly because of the skill and patience of their coaches.

From what they’ve shared, we’ve also gotten the idea that their coaches were friendly and welcoming, especially to beginners. However, they can also dial up the intensity to 11 when it comes to competitiveness.

The gym itself is quite spacious as well, and offers both mats and a ring for sparring sessions.

One thing we’d wish they would do is to add more disciplines to their classes, as they mostly focus on kickboxing and Muay Thai at the moment.

Pros

  • Uplifting community
  • Skilled and personable coaches
  • Solid Muay Thai classes
  • Spacious and well-maintained gym

Cons

  • Slightly limited selection of classes

Felt welcomed and supported

“From the moment I stepped in, I felt welcomed and supported. The coaches are incredibly friendly and patient, which made all the difference as I started my journey with zero experience.

The training environment is positive and motivating, with a strong sense of community. The coaches are not just skilled fighters—they’re amazing teachers. They take the time to explain techniques in detail and correct your form, ensuring you improve safely and effectively.

I started as a complete beginner, feeling intimidated by the idea of stepping into a martial arts gym, but their encouragement gave me the confidence to push through. Over time, with their guidance, I saw massive improvements in my skills, strength, and overall fitness.

Now, after two years of consistent training, I’ve gone from zero to feeling like a senior member of the gym. My techniques have improved significantly, and my confidence has skyrocketed. It’s not just a gym; it’s a family that supports you every step of the way.

If you’re looking for a Muay Thai gym with excellent coaching, a friendly atmosphere, and a place where you can truly grow, this is the one!”

– Thien Anh Trinh (Rachel Trinh), Google Review

Helped me improve quickly

“Started with zero experience, but the patient instructors and welcoming atmosphere helped me improve quickly. Now I really enjoy Muay Thai! They also offer great team-building sessions for companies. Highly recommend for beginners and groups!”

Business hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Website

FADE MMA & Gym is one of our top picks because it’s one of the few options in Malaysia that offers 24-hour access to its members. This includes access to the ring, punching bags, and the weight room, which features benches, kettlebells, barbells, and dumbbells.

What impresses us more is that even with its 24/7 business hours, it never reeks of a foul smell and is always well-maintained. Members have also noted how the community looks out for one another by encouraging everyone to clean up after themselves when using the gym.

The MMA classes here are varied, offering both Muay Thai, boxing, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, etc. Additionally, these classes are praised by their students for being intentional, even in group sessions, thanks to the coaches’ individualised attention to each student.

One thing they could improve is their temperature control, as they don’t have AC at the moment. Plus, we also want to note that the gym isn’t as spacious as the other entries on this list.

Pros

  • 24-hour access for members
  • Friendly and uplifting community
  • Offers fitness classes as well
  • Well-maintained

Cons

  • No AC
  • Fairly small space

One of the best decisions I’ve made

“Friendly and enthusiastic, Muay Thai Coach! Focuses on techniques and skills that will prepare you for real street fight scenarios.

Although classes are normally grouped, the instructor will always make sure to teach each student based on their level!

Have been going there for nearly a month! I must say it is one of the best decisions I’ve made this year. Feeling stronger, healthier and more confident already!”

– Philip Peh, Google Review

Clean and comfortable

“The first impression of this gym to me is the clean and comfortable environment. Even though they have classes almost every day, somehow it’s still clean.

Furthermore, the weightlifting area has barbells, dumbbells, Olympic bar, kettlebells, med balls and a lot of plates, which is more than enough for a martial arts gym.

The coaches here would also give advice depending on your techniques. I came for three sessions a week, and I noticed my endurance improved.”

  • Saturday: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Website

Sharks Muay Thai & MMA was on our radar due to the wide variety of disciplines they offer, including Muay Thai, boxing, BJJ, and more. It was also recommended to us by a friend who’s been doing combat sports for several years because of its supportive environment.

Judging from our interviews with their students, their coaches are extremely technical. A handful of our interviewees stated how much they’ve improved even as beginners because of the skills showcased by the coaches during classes.

One of the things that caught our attention about this gym is its free trials. It’s a no-strings-attached free class that allows newcomers to get a feel for the gym before committing to a full membership.

However, we did receive some complaints from their previous students about how newcomers with free trials often don’t receive the attention they need. They complained about how they were just forced to follow the movements of the coach.

Pros

  • Offers a free trial
  • Supportive environment
  • Wide variety of principles

Cons

  • Not that beginner-friendly

Great environment for both beginners and experienced fighters

“This Muay Thai gym offers a great environment for both beginners and experienced fighters. The trainers are skilled, supportive, and focus on proper technique. The facilities are clean and well-equipped.

Training sessions are challenging but fun, helping to build strength, stamina, and discipline. Highly recommended for anyone looking to improve their Muay Thai skills or overall fitness.”

– Nabil Hisham, Google Review

Coaches are skilled and technical

“Great place to train if you’re looking for an authentic and clean gym. Coaches are skilled and technical. If you’re a beginner, you would love this place.

They don’t put too much pressure on you, and let you learn at your own pace without sacrificing any learning experience. It’s a friendly and motivating environment. If you’ve been doing this for a while, they have advanced classes for you.

Honestly, one of the most worth it gyms that’s comfortable, well-equipped and affordable. Love this place.”
