7 Places to Get the Crispiest and Juiciest Korean Chicken in Malaysia

I don’t know if it’s just the countless K-dramas I’ve been bingeing on for the last couple of years, but I’ve had the most intense craving for Korean fried chicken for a while now. Whenever I’m food hopping in SS15, Bukit Bintang and other food hubs, I always see if they offer this dish.

They just look so good on TV, from how characters eat them to how they’re flavoured with different sauces and powders. This is why, for the past month, I’ve gone on a hunt for the best Korean fried chicken in Malaysia, and I’m proud to share my findings with you here!

Whether you’re looking for something cheesy, spicy, garlicky or anything in between, these restaurants will satisfy both your tastebuds and hunger:

KyoChon 1991 is one of the OGs, as they’ve been serving their deliciously tender fried chicken for over three decades. One of our favourite things about this place is that they offer three different types of chicken: drumettes, wingettes and of course, the classic boneless.

Their selection of sauces may not be as varied but it has all the classic flavours like soy garlic, honey garlic and our favourite, yangnyeom. We also like how they don’t go overboard on their sauces to the point where it overpowers the flavour of the chicken.

This place is also great for families and friend groups because they offer different platters. For instance, you can either get a set of 8 drumsticks, 10 boneless chicken bites or 20 wingettes or drumettes.

Pro tip:

End your meal on a sweet note by ordering their durian dots, which are like doughnut holes. If that’s not your cup of tea, you can opt for their chocolate dots instead!

4Fingers is one of the most famous Korean fried chicken joints in Malaysia, featuring multiple branches across the country. It’s the most fast-food type-ish restaurant on this list, and we mean that in the best possible way!

For starters, their offerings are quite cheap, and the service is exceptionally fast. Furthermore, the variety of their menu is impressive, as they offer their chicken either on their own, alongside sides like fries and rice or even as a patty for a halal burger!

One thing they do that we haven’t seen in other restaurants is they incorporate Korean fried chicken into classic Malay dishes. They have an entire series dedicated to this and our favourite one is the nasi lemak combo.

Pro tip:

Order a side of nacho cheese dip regardless of what you order. The spicy marinate of their Korean fried chicken perfectly blends with the creamy and gooey goodness of this dip.

BHC Chicken is one of our go-to spots in KL because of their notably bigger pieces of fried chicken compared to other restaurants. It’s not just because of the batter too, as the meat itself is huge, whether you’re getting the fillet or the drumstick.

Speaking of batter, it makes for a satisfying crunch, especially when it’s powdered with their chilli dry rub. However, nothing beats their cheese-powdered fried chicken with vegetable seasoning—it’s their bestseller for a reason!

If you’re looking for something other than fried chicken, you can also check out their other Korean delights. One of their best offerings is the seafood sunbudu jjigae, which is a spicy soup consisting of a large prawn, mushrooms and different kinds of veggies.

Pro tip:

If you’re visiting with a group, we recommend ordering one of their Jjang Combos, which comes with drumsticks, fillets, fries, drinks and kimchi rice.

Seoul Chicken is always a safe bet when it comes to Korea’s most famous glazed and crispy fried chicken. For starters, their offerings are cheap, which is more impressive when you see the size and portions of their dishes.

Whether you’re going for their wingette, drumstick or more, you can expect them to be coated with their sticky marinades. You can’t go wrong with any of them but if you want our advice, we recommend the spicy soy garlic and yangnyeom.

They also offer those trendy cheese bowls you see on social media where you can dip your drumsticks in and get the most ridiculous cheese stretch. Speaking of cheese, they also offer shin ramen with cheese sauce, which is perfectly cheesy and spicy.

Pro tip:

If you want to add some carbs to your order, we recommend getting a platter of their dakgalbis. They also offer amazing kimchi fried rice that’s perfect to pair with their spicy fried chicken.

Nanda Chicken holds a special place in our hearts because they’re one of the few Korean fried chicken spots in Malaysia that offers local flavours. A perfect example of this is their curry powder fried chicken, which when combined with the crispy skin, makes for a lip-smacking bite.

However, you can’t leave without trying their bestselling snow cheese chicken, which features fried wings and wingettes dusted with powdered cheese. To make things more cheesier, it also comes with a bed of melted mozzarella—yum!

Fans of Korean pop culture will also love dining here, as the restaurant displays various posters of K-pop groups like BTS and NewJeans. Furthermore, their speakers blast the catchy and timeless tunes of these talented artists.

Pro tip:

If you’re feeling adventurous, we recommend trying their fried chicken feet! These have been simmering in a savoury broth for a couple of hours and their meat is coated with signature sweet and spicy sauce.

If you’re looking for a more laid-back spot to get Korean fried chicken, then Mukó should be right up your alley. This cafe offers a warm and inviting ambience and of course, a wide array of Korean staples, among which is their famous fried chicken.

What makes their chicken special is the simplicity of the flavours. You can either get the spicy or regular versions, both of which are great for pairing with their dips and side dishes.

Aside from the stretchy cheese, we love pairing our spicy Korean fried chicken with their rice and sliced egg—trust us, you won’t regret this combination!

Pro tip:

We recommend ordering their soft tofu soup if you want something to warm your soul during a rainy day in Malaysia. These are also great to order alongside their fried chicken because of the contrast of their flavours!

K Fry Urban Korea should be on your list if you love Korean comfort food, in general. For starters, they offer crispy and well-marinated fried chicken that will never fail to satisfy your tastebuds.

Their most famous sauce here is the yangnyeom and it’s not hard to see why! It’s the perfect blend between sweet and spicy, which is also a great flavour to coat your side of freshly steamed rice.
