One challenge I quickly realised as a new car owner is finding the right auto repair shop not only for your car, but for your peace of mind as well. A newbie mistake of mine was not doing any research before visiting a particular garage, where I ended up overpaying for a sloppy job.
This steep learning curve made me a bit more careful with finding auto repair shops in Penang, which took a lot of trial and error. It also became a therapeutic routine, where I would explore the island’s kopitiams while waiting for my car.

Ching Teo Auto Enterprise was on our radar before this list because of their affordable repair services. We once had our car’s bumper repainted here, and we were impressed with the quality of their workmanship.
Furthermore, the overall turnaround time is impressive, which I also confirmed with previous customers. They highlighted how their cars’ fixes were completed within 30 minutes or less, depending on the case’s complexity.
Many also praised the friendliness of these mechanics, often saying how they’re always ready to greet customers upon entering the shop.
We also appreciate the attention to detail of their services, from choosing the right paint to attaching a bumper, etc.
However, one negative consensus we noticed during our interviews was the inconsistent quality of their respraying services. A handful of customers were disappointed that their newly painted car was chipping away just days after the service.

“My car’s bumper came off due to a broken bracket. Tried getting it fixed at multiple workshops, but it didn’t quite work out. Tee Shien (owner’s son) was very helpful and explained clearly the issues. He managed to get it fixed using some metalworks, instead of conventional gluing.
Duration about 30mins and charged RM120, which I think is reasonable considering it’s a permanent fix and a job well done. A bit tricky to navigate to shop for first timers, as Google / Waze doesn’t lead to the exact location.
Coming from Heng Ee roundabout, drive along Jalan Terengganu and pass the commercial lots on the left until you reach a mini roundabout, immediately turn left into the small trail road and drive to the end, you will see a yellow signboard with Ching Teo Enterprise above the roof.”

We also interviewed previous customers of the garage, and they shared the same thoughts regarding the turnaround time of the services. From what we’ve gathered, the average timeframe for their repairs is around 30 minutes.
Interviewees have also shared their appreciation towards the mechanics’ friendliness and communication skills. For instance, these mechanics would go into in-depth explanations of their diagnostics with the customers before explaining how they would fix them.

We drove past Siang Lun Repair Car Service Centre once, and their garage caught our attention because of its bright lights shining on the cars’ smooth surfaces. This led us to inquire about their services, and we were surprised at how varied they were.
For starters, they offer engine tuning, which is done by one of their expert mechanics to optimise performance. Watching the mechanic at work during this service was mesmerising, as he worked with finesse and was able to get the job done in under an hour.
Previous customers have also told us during our interviews that these mechanics showcase the same expertise in services like brake checking, air conditioning, and starter changing.
We also appreciate the garage’s accessibility, located in Jelutong and open from morning until 7:00 PM, six days a week.
Our only gripe is the pricy rates. A handful of our respondents also complained about some of the mechanics’ tendencies to upsell.

We reached out to their regulars, and the majority of their feedback consisted of praise towards the mechanics. For starters, they highlighted how quickly these professionals get the job done, from the initial diagnostic to the repair itself.
Our respondents also shared how knowledgeable their mechanics were, noting how quickly they could identify the issue with their car’s batteries.
The main highlight here, however, is the wheel instalments, which already come with free alignment and balancing!
