What to Expect in Ice Skate IOI
Olympic-sized Rink
One of the first things you’ll notice upon arriving here is its humungous size and you’re not alone, as this is the biggest ice rink in Malaysia. This is because it features the same dimensions as the ones found in the Olympics, which are roughly 30 meters by 60 meters.
This massive space is perfect, as it provides enough space for ice skaters of all levels of expertise. For instance, beginners can stick on the sides and go around in small circles while advanced skaters can zoom across the rink without restrictions.
Skate Rentals
You don’t have to worry about bringing your own skates when visiting this rink, as it offers a rental stand that features different kinds of equipment. Aside from the skates themselves, these include gloves, socks and even those cute penguins that act as guides for beginners.
Lockers and seating areas
Icescape Ice Rink also features lockers and seating areas outside of the rink. You can rent a locker for just RM3 to store your personal belongings while the seating area is for taking breaks or for when you simply want to watch other skaters.
Regular Ice Resurfacing
To keep the sheet of ice usable for skaters visiting throughout the day, the rink will resurface it at three different times (2:30 PM, 5:00 PM, and 7:30 PM). This is a necessary part of the process as over time, there will be grooves on the ice that can make skating dangerous.
Also, the slush that accumulates from skating can be hazardous and cause accidents. Ice reshaping will alleviate this and the process will take around 30 minutes, during which you can watch the process take place or roam the mall.
Ice Skating Lessons
If it’s your first time ice skating or you’re too scared to lace up a pair of skates, don’t worry! There are experts on the rink who will be more than willing to give you a lesson or two about this fun recreational activity.
You can either go on group sessions or private lessons. Regardless of which you choose, one thing’s for sure and that is you’ll be gliding through the ice in no time!
Special Events
From time to time, the ice rink will hold various events like entertaining shows and exciting competitions—both of which are amazing to witness. If you’re lucky enough, you can watch these events in their full glory up close for free if you’re inside the mall!
Speaking of special events, you can also celebrate your birthday here! The rink offers package tiers, with each one featuring a set of admission tickets, shows, party games, food, balloons and so much more!
Family-friendly atmosphere
Icescape Ice Rink features a family-friendly atmosphere that’s especially evident during the holiday season. Here, you’ll find tons of families having fun, whether they know how to skate or not.
Plus, it’s a great activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, which means that no one from the family will feel left out.
Things to Remember before Visiting
Wear the right type of clothing
As much as possible, we recommend wearing layers to keep yourselves warm in the middle of the ice rink. Furthermore, we’d advise wearing or at least bringing your own pair of socks and gloves so that you won’t have to pay extra to rent them since they’re required to be worn.
Buy your tickets online
If you want to save yourself from queueing in long lines, we recommend purchasing your tickets online through Klook. Not only will you save time, but you’ll also get to save money, as they hold numerous promotions throughout the year.
Take breaks
It may not seem like it at first but ice skating can be tiring, especially if you’re a beginner. Fortunately, the rink features a seating section where you can catch your breath and more preferably, sip some water to regain your energy.
Speaking of regaining your energy, some concession stands around the rink can help you get back on track!
