As a self-proclaimed foodie, I have to admit that there are some times when I just crave a big fat slab of steak or a mountain of fries. Thankfully, Perlis, being known for its amazing local delights, surprisingly offers a handful of Western dishes as well!

It’s surprising to see how this humble state offers a strong collection of Western restaurants, which is why I’ve been on the hunt for the best ones it has to offer. After several visits, I’ve managed to narrow them down, and I’m here to share with you why I love each of them.

If we’re strictly talking about menu variety, Chortiez & Co is definitely up there among the greatest Western dishes in Perlis. Their menu consists of Western classics such as cheeseburgers, fries, steaks, grilled salmon and more.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for something more sophisticated, you can opt for one of their delicious pastas or salads. To top it all off, they also serve a wide variety of milkshakes to end your meal on a sweet and chocolatey note.

The lively ambience of the restaurant is worth highlighting as well, as it features live music throughout the night. Oh, and they also serve some alcoholic drinks so if you’re looking for a great nightlife spot to cap off your day, this is your place!

Pro tip:

If you’re going to order their chicken chop or any of their slabs of meat, we recommend ordering a side of their Chott fried rice. Consisting of green peas, carrots and corn, this side dish will definitely fill up your tummies!

Ana Burger D’Cafe is a hidden gem that only opens its doors once the sun sets, so consider coming here after spending a day full of activities in Perlis. As you may have gleaned from its name, this place serves a myriad of hamburgers, some of which you may haven’t tried before.

One of their best burgers is undoubtedly the hot juicy beef burger (yes, that’s actually its name), which is drenched in their famous cheese sauce. It also comes with a boatload of fries on the side, so consider ordering this dish if you’re hungry as a horse!

Don’t let its name fool you into thinking that they only serve burgers though, as that can’t be farther from the truth! They also serve other Western favourites like ribs, fried chicken, steaks and our personal favourite, grilled chicken with a side of salad and fries!

Pro tip:

We recommend getting here as soon as its doors open, as it’s a well-known restaurant in Kampung Jarak. If you’re early enough, you can secure one of their outdoor seating, which lets you enjoy cool views and the brisk wind while chowing down on your food.

Bossku House claims to be the “House of Western Food” in Perlis, and we don’t doubt that statement, especially after seeing its menu. This place houses (see what I did there) a wide variety of Western favourites from buttermilk chicken to cheeseburgers and more.

You can’t go wrong with any of the items on their menu but if you want our advice, you have to get their fish and chips. We love the overall crunchy texture of its shell while maintaining the flaky consistency of the fish itself—plus, they’re served with an amazing side of tartare sauce.

The place is also great, as it offers outside seating, allowing customers to bask in the chilly night weather while eating. Plus, it has more than ample tables to house the droves of hungry customers it sees every night!

Pro tip:

If you’re planning on commuting on the way to Bossku House, the best thing to do is ride a bus going to the Hotel Putra Regency stop. From there, you can walk to the restaurant, which will only take you a minute or two.

Aside from providing your daily caffeine fix, this cafe also doubles as a restaurant that serves a wide array of Western dishes. For instance, if you want something that isn’t too heavy, you can order some of their pasta like their mac and cheese and carbonara—yum!

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for something that can quench your hunger and cravings for savoury dishes, then their grilled chicken should be right up your alley! This dish features just the right amount of char and it’s perfectly seasoned, eliminating the need for a dipping sauce.

Pro tip:

If you’re visiting this place with someone who isn’t necessarily a fan of Western food, you can also order their amazing local and Chinese dishes! Some of the ones we recommend the most include the curry and fried bee hoon.

Daddy’s Kitchen is the perfect destination for those times when you just want to sink your teeth into a fat slab of steak. This Western restaurant has garnered a following because of its delicious grilled pieces of meat, whether they be steaks, chicken and more.

Don’t get us wrong, anyone can grill meat, but there’s something about Daddy’s Kitchen’s sauce that makes their meals lip-smacking good! Furthermore, these meals come with coleslaws and fries on the side, so you’ll be getting the best bang for your buck.

It’s also one of the most Instaworthy Western restaurants in Perlis, especially if you choose to eat outside. Here, you’ll be treated to a nice laid-back ambience, with tons of photo opportunities, from their bus-turned-restaurant or the beautiful fairy lights.

Pro tip:

If you’re visiting with a big group, we recommend ordering their wagyu tomahawk steak! This massive slab of meat is perfectly charred on the outside and soft and pinkish on the inside—plus, it’s great for sharing!

Lapaq Cafe & Space should be on your radar if you’re looking to wind down while enjoying some fantastic Western food. One could easily get lost in the selection of dishes available here, but if you want our advice, we recommend ordering their spaghetti bolognese.

This pasta is expertly made and tastes authentic as opposed to the sweetened version that a lot of Western restaurants in Malaysia do. Aside from that, this pasta along with the restaurant’s other dishes is perfect for sharing because of their generous serving sizes!

The overall place features this relaxing and cosy vibe, which is why we recommend spending your time here to relax and unwind. Its industrial vibe and plant collection will be more than glad to welcome you with open arms!

Pro tip:

If you’re looking for something meaty, however, we can’t recommend their cheeseburger enough. It features a real meaty patty, grilled to perfection that puts famous American fast food chains to shame.

Bomaq Cafe is hands-down one of the most beautiful Western restaurants in Perlis, hugely because of its structure. It takes the form of a traditional Malay house, which instantly gives the place that cosy and welcoming vibe.

Looks aside, Bomaq Cafe is still a great option because of its impressively varied menu, which consists of both Western and local classics. Among these offerings, however, our favourite has got to be their spaghetti and meatballs, as it’s the ultimate comfort food.

If you’re coming with kids, you have to try their delicious chicken chop, which is essentially a huge fillet of chicken deep-fried to perfection. This dish comes with a side of fries and some coleslaw for the complete package!

Pro tip:

If you’re looking for something more local, you have to try their satay! This dish is one of Malaysia’s most iconic street foods, which is essentially grilled skewered meat that’s been marinated with a special peanut sauce.

Whether you’re looking for fried chicken, hotdogs on buns, burgers and other Western classics, you can find them all here! Meanwhile, if you want to immerse yourself in the country’s cuisine, you can also order some of Malaysia’s best dishes like nasi lemak and satay.

Aside from the food, our favourite thing about this place is its open-air concept, which allows its diners to eat comfortably. Plus, it also helps that the overall place is neat and cosy, which makes eating here all the more pleasing.

Pro tip:

You can also have a memorable nightlife here with your friends, as it also features a stall that serves a variety of cocktails. On the other hand, you can also opt for one of their coffee drinks if you’re just looking to wind down while catching up with your friends.

Rico Cafe & Western is one of our go-to spots whenever we’re eating in a big group thanks to their huge serving sizes. This reigns true with all of their dishes from their chips down to their pasta and steaks—talk about value for money!

Their dishes are colourful, which immediately gave us the idea that they’re made using fresh ingredients. This observation became a conclusion once we tasted their delicious fish and chips and grilled lamb shank, as we were wowed by their freshness and flavour.

They also serve a myriad of coffee drinks, so if you’re looking for a spot to spend your peaceful afternoon, this may be the answer you’re looking for! They even serve non-coffee drinks, which is perfect if you’re coming with kids.
