8 Teluk Intan Dishes You Shouldn’t Miss Out On!
We’ve been to Teluk Intan several times to know that it doesn’t get the flowers it deserves for offering some of the best local delicacies in the country. Trust us, they’re not just about river cruises and beautiful landmarks like the Leaning Tower—although we do love a good adventure!
This time, however, we want to take you on a culinary adventure. One that will tantalise your tastebuds and introduce them to new flavours that they wouldn’t otherwise experience in other places in Malaysia—or the world, for that matter.
So, forget fancy restaurants! The streets of Teluk Intan are where the real quality food is. Here are some of our favourite Teluk Intan foods that you MUST try and the best restaurants where you can find them:

If you ask any local which Teluk Intan food you should try first, they’ll most likely answer Chee Cheong Fun, and we can’t blame them! It’s the perfect example of simplicity at its finest, as it’s essentially a plate of rice noodles—but with an added twist!
These noodles feature a silky smooth texture and a distinctive taste that you’ll immediately fall in love with. This flavour comes in courtesy of its two most well-known fillings, dried shrimp and pickled green chilli.
Now, tons of restaurants and stalls offer these delicious noodles, but the one that locals recommend the most is Liew Kee (Ah Lek). It’s a staple humble family-owned restaurant that has been around for ages, and people around the country still flock toward it every day!
Pro tip:
Since the overall space of the small restaurant is made up of the kitchen, it would be best to order your Chee Cheong Fun for takeout. Just be sure to consume it as soon as possible, as this dish is best eaten while it’s warm and slightly crispy.

Nasi Kandar Krishnan is one of the most famous restaurants in Teluk Intan, partly because of its signature dish of the same name. Right off the bat, there’s a certain wow factor with this dish visually, as it’s essentially a plate of rice surrounded by colourful and flavourful curries.
This dish is best paired with fried chicken, which is why you’ll see the chef at Nasi Kandar Krishnan constantly cooking this meat 24/7, as customers queue up for this combination. If you’re looking for a healthier option, they also serve a solid selection of tender vegetables!
The result of combining these different ingredients is an explosion of flavours. Then to top it all off, the plate is served with sambal to add that distinct flavour and tanginess—yum!
Pro tip:
If you’re looking for something refreshing to pair with your savoury plate of nasi kandar, we recommend ordering their teh o limao. It’s a delicious tea drink that’s mixed in with a fresh squeeze of lime juice.

These ingredients include tender slices of beef or chicken, crunchy bean sprouts, chillies, onions, shallots and a hard-boiled egg cut in half. All of these along with the yellow springy noodles, make for an interesting flavour and texture upon every bite.
You can also customise the taste of your mee rebus by adding a sprinkle of freshly squeezed lime juice for that extra tanginess. If you’re looking for something other than mee rebus, you can also order their delicious rojak, which is another famous Malaysian delicacy.
Pro tip:
If you’re looking for something sweet to wash off the flavour of mee rebus, we recommend ordering their ABC. It’s one of the most famous Malaysian traditional sweets, consisting of shaved ice, beans, jelly, syrups and other sweet goodness.

You can’t visit Teluk Intan without visiting the famous Rojak Ah Chai stall—it’s so famous that it’s an attraction in itself! This just goes to show how good their rojak is and to think that this humble stall has been around for more than half a century is still surreal to think about.
Rojak is a type of salad that consists of different ingredients like pineapple chunks, turnips, kangkung and cucumber. The main highlight of this dish, however, is undoubtedly the special sauce, which completes the dish’s sweet, sour, salty, spicy and savoury flavour.
Other ingredients can also be thrown into the mix to add more flavour and texture. For instance, if you want to add some crunch to your salad, you can ask to add some peanuts or some prawn fritters.
Pro tip:
If you’re looking to score some fresh produce from Malaysia’s farmers, make sure to stop by the wet market next door! It’s the best place to get fresh fruits, vegetables and meat, and the best part is that you won’t have to spend a fortune!

Teluk Intan is also home to various Chinese bakeries like Kedai Biskut Sin Guan Hoe which have been around for countless years. They’re great spots to visit if you’re looking to familiarise yourself with traditional Chinese pastries or if you’re just looking for something light to snack on.
Among these pastries, however, you have to try heong peah the most, which is what Kedai Biskut Sin Guan Hoe specializes in. Heong Peah is these little flaky pastries that are filled with sesame and sugar, giving off a burst of sweetness in every bite.
We recommend trying this pastry at Kedai Biskut Sin Guan Hoe because their recipe has been handed down through multiple generations already. So, if there’s anyone who’s more than fit to serve the most delicious version of this pastry, it would be them!
Pro tip:
If you’re keeping a close watch on your sugar levels but still want to enjoy this iconic food, we recommend ordering the plain pastry version. It offers the same flakey goodness but without the sugary filling.

ABC also comes in various flavours and Hawayi serves just about every variation you can think of! One of their bestsellers is the “Bingo Strawberry”, which features strawberry-flavoured shaved ice topped with a variety of fresh fruits—perfect for the summertime!

Pro tip:
While you’re in Hawayi, make sure to try their delicious laksa as well! They’re delicious but notoriously known to be spicy, but hey, you can always wash the spice down with a nice cold serving of air batu campur!

Out of all the delicious Indian food offered in Teluk Intan, we didn’t know which one to highlight the most, so we opted to bundle them into a single item. Regardless, the best place to get authentic dishes from this beloved cuisine is Rstoran M Gulam Rasul.
From their curries to their tandoori, chicken biryani, beef stew and anything in between, everything tastes spectacular! Speaking of curries, they’re best paired with their authentically made roti canai, which is equal parts flakey and crispy—just the way we like it!
This touch of authenticity doesn’t come as a surprise, as we found out that the owner is from Pakistan. Plus, what’s more impressive is that this restaurant is open 24 hours, so you can get your fix of authentic Indian food whenever you want!
Pro tip:
This restaurant is almost always packed, which is a testament to the quality of its food. If you want to avoid crowds, we recommend visiting early in the morning or late at night!
Furthermore, you won’t have to worry about parking during these times, as there will be plenty of available spaces on a side street near the restaurant.
