You Haven’t Tried Mookata IF You Haven’t Been to These 7 Spots in KL!
There are countless ways to satisfy your hunger when you’re in Kuala Lumpur. You can either go all out at a buffet restaurant, stroll Jalan Alor Food Street and immerse yourself in Malaysia’s street food scene or my personal favourite, head to a local mookata restaurant.
I mean, what more could you ask for? Hot pot for your broth? Check! Grill for thin slices of meat? Double check!
As bustling as Kuala Lumpur’s food scene, however, it doesn’t feature as many mookata spots as I would like, or at least those that are worth checking out. So to spare you from going from one street to another, I’ve compiled all the best mookata spots you can find in KL!

Moo-Ka-Ta Krua Thai is one of the most famous mookata joints in the country, boasting seven locations nationwide. This is more impressive considering that they’ve only been around since 2014 but at the same time, it’s not hard to see why it’s growing so much!
For starters, they offer one of the most affordable mookata packages in the country without cutting back on quality. It’s not like they’re holding back on the ingredients they’re offering as well, as they provide anything from different cuts of pork and chicken.
If you want our advice, however, we recommend getting the pork belly and bacon set, to treat yourself to a meaty good time. If you want something to balance out the meatiness of the pork, we also recommend ordering a side of steamed rice.
Pro tip:
You can also order a side of stir-fried spicy kailan if the meat sweats start breaking out! Or if you’re looking for something that consists of seafood, we can also recommend the stir-fried broccoli with prawns!
Thai Bear Mookata

Thai Bear Mookata dials everything up to 11, from the main types of meat offered to the variety of side dishes you can order. Starting with the former, we love how they offered different types of meat as well as a myriad of cuts of that respective meat.
Of course, our favourite is the pork belly but who doesn’t love thin slices of pork, right? When grilled perfectly, these turn tender, being the best accompaniment to lettuce, rice and other side dishes that your heart desires.
We also appreciate that they offer a wide array of seafood for non-meat patrons out there! They offer fresh clams, oysters, mussels, crab and more.
Pro tip:
If you’re looking to splurge and want to try something special, we recommend ordering their ribeye beef! Meanwhile, if you need some more kick out of your meat, you can use their authentic Thai chilli to spice up your dining experience.

Thai in Mookata is another famous chain in Malaysia that’s a go-to of ours whenever we’re craving fresh grilled meat and hot pot. They just have such great sets that are perfect for groups that we simply can’t pass on.
For instance, they have this set that only costs less than RM50 and it’s already good for sharing between 2 to 3 people. Furthermore, these sets already feature everything from the soup base to the pork slices, fish balls, crab sticks and more—talk about value for money, right?
This restaurant also features an unlimited dining style where you can refill your noodles and vegetables to your heart’s content!

If their location in Setapak is out of your itinerary’s way, don’t worry! You can also check out their branches at Old Klang Road, Kepong, and Subang Jaya.

Furthermore, they offer a bunch of delicious soup bases that do a great job of coating these aforementioned meat cuts with flavour. Among these soup bases is the pork bone soup, which is a must-try!

We also recommend this place for avid sports fans, as they’ll usually televise much-awaited tournaments and events on their flat-screen TVs. This creates a lively atmosphere akin to those Irish pubs you’ll find in England.
