Hearing is one sense most of us seem to take for granted. It’s quite easy to forget to stay away from extremely loud noise or even simply lower the volume of one’s headphones to a comfortable level.
I had a close call with losing mine after years of being in my earphones, listening to my music player at high volume. After visiting a top ENT clinic, the doctor referred me to an audiologist, who then tested my hearing levels.
I was lucky to have normal hearing still and was just advised to stay away from loud sounds. So, if you’ve been hearing ringing or are hearing less and less, it might be time to pay any of these audiologists in Penang a visit!

This Hearing Partners branch has been around since 2013. It’s easy to spot thanks to its prime location; the shopfront parking’s pretty sweet (and free), too.
Although blessed with being on the mainland instead of Penang Island, it easily became one of our top picks because of the adequate number of services it offers, as well as the fantastic demeanour and communication skills of its staff.
(Not to promote the habit, lah, but they’re nice even if you walk in during the lunch break!)
It provides hearing tests and hearing aid fittings for adults, babies, and children. Other diagnostics and treatment available for anyone struggling with ringing in the ears or frequent nausea are also syok options.
We appreciate the free basic hearing test on our visit, which helped gauge our current hearing levels.
As for the hearing aids, it’s a bit disappointing that it only carries one brand. On the upside, the two-year warranty and flexible instalment plans are perks we love.

Another audiologist in Butterworth to look for is Healthy Hearing, led by the youthful Mr. Wilson Tan, a registered professional with over 10 years of experience. This clinic is well known for two things: earwax removal and comprehensive hearing care services.
We actually had a brief chat with Mr. Tan despite his busy schedule, and he was friendly enough to share practical ear care advice. We’re truly grateful for the solid tips.
Most of its clients also appreciate Healthy Hearing’s affordable pricing and seasonal promos. Moreover, we like that it offers several hearing aid brands (we’ve counted four), and allows bank instalment payment plans for those on a tight budget.
The only downside is that Healthy Hearing doesn’t seem to have an official website yet, which can make it look sketchy online. But once you get to the clinic in person, you’ll find that it’s a well-run and welcoming establishment.

Clarisound is one of the biggest names in Malaysia’s allied health industry. Founded in 2001 by a British entrepreneur, the company blends UK expertise with Asian insight across its five branches nationwide.
Its Penang branch offers hearing assessments, as well as hearing aid fittings, tuning, and aftercare, both in-person and online. Clients often praise Clarisound staff for being informative, patient, and genuinely helpful—no wonder they’ve earned industry awards!
It also stood out to us for its smooth appointment booking system. We booked a consultation quickly via phone, while the friendly receptionist made my day with her adequate knowledge of the clinic’s services.
Once there, the only potential downside is the limited parking space, but it’s free.
Now, if you’ll end up getting hearing aids from Clarisound, do note that you’ll only have two brand options.
Not that great for price flexibility, but there’s a silver lining: We love that the company can work with insurance providers and government agencies in reducing the costs you’ll incur.

Fun fact: 20 decibels (dB) is the softest volume a person with healthy ears should be able to hear. Of all the audiologists we came across for this article, 20dB Hearing easily has the most comprehensive services to help people hear well.
This place provides hearing assessments and hearing aids, but it’s one of a kind for the focus on industrial audiometry (a.k.a. diagnosing hearing loss caused by occupations exposed long-term to loud noises) and speech therapy, among others.
To add, 20dB Hearing has over 20 years in business, which is always reassuring to know. Its staff are great with their patients, and the company can offer promos to its customers once in a while.
That said, we would’ve wanted over four hearing aid brands on offer, but understand that there is surely a sensible business or quality reason behind the limited choices.

Our list of audiologists in Penang wouldn’t be complete without the BEST Hearing Aid Center (the name sounds pretentious, but thankfully service isn’t). Since it opened in 1995, this place hands-down, has the most solid reputation we’ve seen in our search.
Finding its Penang branch made us a bit geram, though. At first, we thought we were lost because we couldn’t seem to find it (turns out it isn’t on street level but on the fourth floor of a commercial complex); thank goodness we looked up and saw the signage.
Like most audiologists, BEST offers hearing tests and hearing aid sales, repairs, and calibration. We’re amazed by its offer of free lifetime servicing for the latter—now THAT is customer service!
BEST is also a great place to get a mold of your ears for making custom accessories like earplugs for noise reduction, music, or sports use. Everything is done in-house, so the process is better and faster.
